Sorry if this is a repeat subject, but I did a search and checked FAQs and found no usable information.

I have an -02 KJ Renegade with the 3.7L engine, manual 5-speed transmission and factory tow package. I'd like to know the practical and realistic tow capacity of the vehicle.

If anyone can provide guidance about this, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!!

Bob

3500lbs max with the 5-speed. The kj seems to do great towing. If you get anything over 3k with hills its may get alittle slow. Ive towed 2500-3000 and it did ok with big hills. I wouldnt want to tow anything bigger than that. You can tow more(Given you have an auto) but I wouldnt to do it without WD and anti sway control. Our boat isnt that big, but getting it up around 70mph going downhil,l it felt alittle loose without WD or anything. I didnt like that at all.

I believe I read in my manual with a 5 speed it is 3000 lbs. 5000 with the auto. Bigger tires and no change in gears will be worse. When I get another boat, weight of the whole package will be a definite concern.
