I thought about installing a lock-rite in the dana 30a.........and go figure it was a bad idea. Taking that into consideration I would asume that any full time traction device would be a bad idea. Some say the ARB for the front is also a bad idea, but the way I see it wouldn't it be better to have full traction when you need it? So if you rarly use the ARB, I would assume that this would be beneficial for the longevity of the Dana 30a

from what I see and IMO the rpoblem with the 30a is much the same with the TJ/YJ 35
they seem to break from "winde up" or wheen one wheel leaves the ground and it starts to spin realy fast then hits the ground and BLAM it breaks
kinda like when you get the rear of a YJ bouncing and on the last bounce BLAM broken shaft only on the 30a it's a broken housing

I plan to just leave mine open and put a detroit out back

A locker would prevent just that.

I have a locker in the front of my TJ and have more than once had 1 of the 2 up and the other that was on the ground was spinning ,wheeling trails rated 3 & 4 at gilmer, when the one that has no traction gets traction the whole jeep will jump forward wich will be harder in the housing

I think that this topic will be debated until someone comes up with a "real fix"

Talk to USAFCOP, he has ARB front and rear.

I have a True Trac in the front and have wheeled it pretty hard with no problems. I know people who have blown their diffs and some were open, while others were locked. I don't think it will change the odds of blowing your diff one way or the other.

ARBSeth has pointed out that installing an ARB in the 30A actually strengthens the carriers, since the air locker comes with a new and beefier carrier.

The point here is the diff housing cracks, not the internals, the axle (which should be the weakest point) nor the gears fail.

What KJ&Best is trying to say is that, with a locker you get more traction therefore allowing you to feateher the throttle more and not romp on it as much to get traction and move forward, based on this, chances of blowing the diff is reduced.

That is true.

However, a point to argue is you also get more traction which puts more stress on the house, although it has seemed the housing cracks when a wheel is getting air, throttle is down and it grabs... again, with the locker you reduce your chances of being in this sceniro.

If the diff is locked, both tires should turn at the same rate regardless of whether one tire is in the air or both are on solid/lose ground as the axles are locked together.
