Post subject:  HELP ME!! I am freakin' out here....
Ok LOST ppl....I need help and FAST! ya'll know I lifted Bullet with the Frankenlift....that is doing fine. BUT THEN I GOT TIRES....and everything is messed up. I got 265/70/17's, trimmed the fender well, and pounded the pinch weld and the darn things still rub on the A-arms and two other places. Rubbing bad, really bad. I have no choice but to go with 245/70/17's. Here is my delima....

I am only gaining 1" from the tires I had on before so I really want an offroad aggressive tire.....but I hate road noise.

The tire guy gave me three viable options and I need to choose by tomorrow.
Option 1 - Put up with the road noise and keep same tire but go down a size.

Option 2- 245/70/17 Revo A/T, not near as agressive but still perform well according to reviews

Option 3- Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ in same size.

I know nothing about either of these tires, how they perform, how they look....etc. any advisement would be much appreciated.

I have the same dilema. I guess the main question is how much time you'll be spending on the trail vs. the road. If you're willing to put up with the noise, go with the MTR's but if not go with an ATZ. It won't be as agressive but it will still be better than stock tires. I would also look at BFGoodrich ATZ, but I also heard good stuff about the Micky Thomsons Baja. Go on their websites, and compare the noise ratings. Guage what you're confortable with and go with that. The scale they have can be easily compared to a regular / stock tire.

I'd go with the Revos. That is completely uneducated though. I just know from the people that have them that they are great on the road, whether wet, snowed or dry, and got pretty outstanding tractions off-road as well.

Well that sucks, but if i were u I would either go with the option 1 or 3, but i think all three will make about the same amount of noise.
Wat kind of tires did u have before the lift? just the stock wrangler's?

Its really up to you. I know you need advice, but you must make the decision. If you want to be good in the mud, you need those loud tires. A 245/70/16 will fit a stock libby, that may look alittle stupid with the franken lift. I have the 255/70/16 General grabbers on my jeep, but have 5" BS cragars. Thats why they are rubbing on your A-arm, u need rims with less BS. A 245/75/16 would fit much better than those 265's. Not as wide, so they wouldnt rub(as bad) in the rear at full flex either. You didnt need to take those front liners out, at least with 245/75's you wouldnt. All you needed to do with those is beat that weld over and cut on the fog light doors. The revos are a really good tire, but I think they cost WAY to much. I would consider getting a cheaper tire. Tirerack.com is a great place to look at tires. My generals seem to be a good tire, they are alittle loud around 35-45 but quiten back down after that. Good luck!! Sry your having troubles... I hated my tires when I first got them. They almost ripped my rear fenders off at full flex, rubbed on the front, took away torque, but I got over it... :wink:

By reading your posts it looks like your more into appearance than performance. The Bridgestone Duellers are probably one of the finest and most capable road tire made that still has excellent off-road capabilities. The other tire that I would recommend is the BFG AllTerain TA/s

And it is for 17" rims so a 245/70/17 is a 31" tire.

Ho crap, no wonder! THAT'S A 32" TIRE! A few people can barely fit the 265/75R16 with a LOT of trimming, or removing of the entire fenderwell. The one you just picked up is another couple tenths of an inch larger than that. Do yourself the favor of going with a 31" tire, it'll be better offtoad if it fits in the wells, anyway.

I recommend either a wide 31" tire like the 265/65-17 or a 245 width 31" like the 245/70-17.

So you want magic? :-P agressive = noisy, large=rubbing. A good compromise is a 31" all-terrain tire like the General Grabber AT2 or the BFG AT/KO. It's agressive but much quieter on the road.

I suggest Option 1 or 2. Go with a 245/70R17 or a 265/65/R17, since they are 31". Which tire you get is really up to you. More tread = more noise, so it's a matter of how much you can deal with. For tire reviews, you can see a lot of info on tirerack.com.

What backspacing do your rims have? That is why they are rubbing now with the new bigger tires. I had the same problem after I lifted mine. The a-arm was a hair away from the tire and they rubbed the front bottom of the bumper and the sway bar. The stock rims had 5.5" of backspacing and I ordered new rims with 4" of backspacing. So therefore the tires stuck out 1.5" more than the stock rims. Killed all rubbing. Those "nice" rims you got may be holding you back from stepping up to the bigger meater tires you want for it to "look" good as you said in your other post about putting the bigger tires on. Measure your backspacing on those rims and see what it is and go from there.

Believe it or not, ya'll helped out a lot. And yes some magic would be nice :wink: See what sucks is the same tire I have now used to be a different tread pattern and was super quiet. We had those on my b/f old Dodge truck and we loved them. Apparently, they changed the pattern last year and these are really noisy. Truthfully, I do want it all....but sadly, I think I will have to do as you all have said and pick my poison. Weigh which is more important and go with something I can live with. Yea, my "pretty"' rims are holding me back with the whole backspacing issue, but the rims stay! heheeh. Thanks for the help....keep it coming, i have till tomorrow to make a decision. OH the pressure!!

If you decide to go with some ATs, moneywise, the dueler AT Revos are the most expensive, but you can go with the Firestone destination ATs - same performance as the AT revos but way cheaper- good on the road and good on the trails too...
I personally ran Dueler AT Revos and Midwest style offroading they performed superb - MOAB was as good as having MTs - maybe better - more rubber to grip on the rocks.

wheel spacers would help, but then u run the risk of losing a wheel due to overtightening (we over tightened my dads rim on his car and it backed the wheelspacer out and he lost his front tire at 65 mph, the wheel rolled about 1/2 mile further down the road and landed bare rotor onto asphault and made a nice flat spot)
Oh well the BFG A/T is a nice wheel we run those on our yukon, they are pretty quiet and handle off road pretty well.

The Revos are the exact same amount as the ones I have on it now....the tire shop will do the direct swap for free. If they really do wheel nice then I just may go that route because the money is already spent.

I just put revos on mine, 245/75 on 16's and i love them. I think they look quite agressive but yet ride well and grip great. I would say go for it.
