Post subject:  Upper Ball Joint

I am in middle of installing a Frankenlift(front is on, back is in progress) on my KJ and I ran into something that I wasn't expecting. The passenger side went fine with no issues, but when I got to the drivers side the nut would come off the upper ball joint because the whole thing was spinning around. I was able to use some wrenches to hold the ball joint in place while I took the nut off, but I am wondering if the ball joint is supposed to do that?

Once the lift was on I was able to put the nut back on and tighten it using the wrenches. After it was tight I was able to torque it without it spinning. My first thought is that it is fine because its a ball in a socket and can spin, but because the other side didn't I started worrying. Any thoughts?

Yeah, they do that. I put a wrench on top of the ball joint and jack up the a arm until the wrench puts pressure on the UBJ. This puts some pressure on it and keeps it from spinning.

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear its normal. I may have to wait a few days before telling my friend who was helping me...he was the one that was tapping the knuckle to break it loose. I'll let him sweat for a while because I am evil like that
