Post subject:  2005 Liberty Rocky Mountain Edition 4x4 Problem.
Ok so my dad has a 05 Liberty Rocky Mountain Edition 4x4 V6 3.7L. He bought it about a month ago.

His problem is this anytime he takes it up a decent incline the engine will get up to 2000RPM the Jeep will slow to 1 or 2 miles an hour. He then will let of the gas the transmission will slam into gear and the Jeep will immediately jump back up to speed.

Chrysler says this is a known issue for all 2005 Jeep Liberty’s that involves the computer not telling the transmission what to do properly and that no solution has been found. :cry:

I find that very hard to believe if there was such a huge problem would they really still be selling the vehicle? So what I am wondering is has anyone else had this problem? And if so what did they have to do to fix it?

I haven't heard of this happening. Have you tried taking it to another dealer?

hmmm, this is a first for me. Almost like the TPS (throttle positioning sensor) is faulty. If the sensor is wacked out it will not send the proper signal to the tranny, and you get crazy, hard shifting like that.

My 04 has some weird shifting problems like that. It does not happen all the time though.

Havent tried another dealer yet. But I think we may have to if we dont get some kind of resolution out of our current dealer soon.

I just can't imagine a Jeep that has trouble climbing a hill that a Ford LTD could climb with no problems!!

Did you really mean that the Jeep slows down to a speed of 1 or 2 miles per hour? With the gas pedal down?? If so then that's not a common problem. Mine is rather stubborn downshifting but if I really gas it it WILL shift eventually... definetly doesn't slow down to 1 or 2 mph.

Yep it does slow down to 1 to 2 miles an hour holding at 2000RPM.

I would have to say that I have more of a problem like this, than the slowing down.

What? Maybe Chrysler didn't understand what you were trying to tell them :D I have an '05 Limited and it does <b>not</b> slow down to 2MPH uphill. It may slow down <b>a little</b> going uphill, since it's pretty heavy, but turning O/D off compensates for that.

If it's a problem with '05 across the board, lots of people would be screaming at DC. I think they (if this is Corporate we're talking about) misunderstood what you're saying, or if this is a dealer, that they're possibly BS'ing you.

I agree with Dirty.. I don't think they understood with what you were saying.. if you're on some hill on an interstate and slow down to 1 or 2mph you're gonna get someone killed and DC would be liable... they surely don't want that!

It's not an issue for regular street driving. The hill I am speaking of is a steep hill. However a Ford LTD used to regularly make the trip with no problems.

The day a Jeep can't do what a Ford LTD can do is the day I stop buying Jeeps.

How steep is steep? San Diego steep? San Francisco steep? 45-degree steep? 35-degree steep?

Ford LTD Steep :wink:

It's a gravel road leading up a mountain. Crowders Mountain in North Carolina to be exact. Thats the best I can do for you.
