I'm inquiring with a ring and pinion guy about doing 4.10s. His suppliers won't even quote him prices without the BOM# from the front diff. Supposedly it's on a plate on the diff case. They must have had some issues with people ordering the wrong parts for liberties or something.

I just crawled under the truck and at very least I'd have to pull the skid plate to get to it, possibly more. I was just wondering if someone knows off the top of their head if there is indeed a BOM# number on our front diffs? I'd hate to start pulling things apart only to find out there isn't one.

Even better, if there is a BOM#, if someone happens to know what it is for the 3.7 liter, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!
Todd

I checked the 03 front diff that is sitting on my garage floor and didn't see a tag other than the gear ratio one, and No BOM#'s. Sorry.

JJsKJs,

I just found this from this pdf file (http://www2.dana.com/pdf/XGI.PDF). If you get a chance could you see if it is stamped in one of these places... I believe it's a 6 or 7 digit number most likely starting with a 6.

How To Identify A Spicer Axle
All Spicer Carrier Type axles are identified with a manufacturing date (1) and Bill of Material number (2)
stamped on the right or left hand tube on driving axles. The Bill of Material number may also be found
on the carrier in some models as shown in illustration (2A). For independent front suspension (IFS)
axles, the B/M number may be located at one of three locations: 1). A vertically positioned tag near the
center of the right hand side support arm, 2) stamped into the left hand side support arm (opposite end
of the camber adjuster), or 3) stamped into the "nose end" of the axle carrier. The location of the
information will depend on the manufacturing date of the axle.
The axle model number will be cast into one of the webs as shown (3), or it can be on the nose.
Each axle contains a gear ratio tag (4), and if the axle is equipped with a limited slip differential, it will have
a tag specifying the type of limited slip lubricant to be used (5).
Refer to the appropriate model number section for parts identification and a breakdown of the Bill of Material.

Rocky road outfitters offers the 4.10 gears on their website. Has anyone ordered 4.10 gears from them? the site says dana 30 not 30a, so I'm wondering if they have the right gears?

I do not know which may be the BOM, but here are all of the numbers stamped on my spare axle from an 02
On the tube, 50763 next to the DANA diamond symbol
Closer to the housing 02 next to another number in a circle 018, I think this may be build date/time
on the right side of the housing (same side as the tube) #186 L-2
on the tag 41-11 3.73
on the left side above the halfshaft input hole 50742 BB

on the white sticker tag on the top of the housing PN 1230 6A1137AD4Z64 and a barcode.

Hope this helps.

Thanks USAFCOP! None of that looks like a BOM#, but I was afraid the IFS might not have one. This guy is a wrangler expert and has probably never even seen an IFS diff. I'll give him all the info and see if any of it is useful.

Thanks again!

I also didn't find any more info than what Ted posted.

I'm guessing this would be it, since it has the barcode associated with it. They would scan the barcode to make sure it is the correct assembly before putting it in the Jeep. Might give it a try and see what they say...
