LOST JEEPS :: View topic - Good Libertys Gone Bad

What could I have done different? Was it insanity to go through that shyte? We did get stuck once but got out of it.

Why do you call your saviours old? They look 'our' age.

The stocker GY tires should only be used in the bush by setting them afire to signal for help.... not for off roading :lol:

Going to Sandia Peak.

I have a friend that just bought an FJ Cruiser. He said it had all sorts of bash protection and of-road tires. It don't. It has a bash plate in the front and rock rails. The tires on it are less agressive than mine! He wants me to go with him off-road.

I'm gonna pass this time.

I'll need a strap and tow hooks to bail him out. :lol:

Frankly, it the position it's in, I don't think tires or lift would have helped.

Nice pictures. Makes me really miss Albuquerque. There are just tons of areas to wheel right outside of albuquerque. If I ever get a chance to go come back with my Jeep we will have to go wheeling.

Send a PM to TheChuckleStart. He is another KJer located in Albuquerque that I've wheeled with. Also check out the Rio Puerco. On the west side of albuquerque. Just get on Southern and keep going until it turns into a dirt road for 2 miles. Then it opens up into some sand dunes and into lots of trails. Huge area out in on the mesa, probably 100 of square miles.

Honestly, the KJ does just as well and I can still drive home at 75mph and not have to worry about being stranded due to mechanical failure. I know alot of people are critical of a KJ, but with a lift and some new tires it will amaze most people.

I can get there pretty easy.

Those of the Hummers were cool. I didn't think you could get one stuck. :lol:

Hello Y'all! I know it's been some time since I've posted. Crazy jorb and all that. Anyway, I thought I would post some pics of my KJ, AKA Roy, when we had a bit of a bad time. It all boils down to a few things 1) Mud and street rubber don't mix 2) If it rains in the mountains, it has to go *somewhere* 3) God is good. My kids and I were rescued by an old couple at sundown leaving the casino to go home. And Roy spent the night in the middle of nowhere unmolested 4) I still believe that the KJ is an awesome vehicle. 5) Jeeps look good covered in mud. 6) I NEED TO DO SOME MORE JEEP FUNCTIONS 7) New Mexico may look tame, but there is a lot of unoccupied space. BE CAREFUL! Going to Sandia Peak. In the ditch. Dang it. Nice avatar pic. We were stranded here. This is the Hagan Mine. It is near the San Feilpe Reservation. Our Savior! That road to the old Hagan mine has caused me grief and misery. It fried a friend's clutch. We got in a fight on that road. I got hopelessly stuck. It did ding up the Liberty but we survived. It sucks being a JeepNewb. Oh well, adventure makes life interesting. Opinions and comments are welcome. What could I have done different? Was it insanity to go through that shyte? Bigger meats. Air them down. DONT TAKE A LINE THAT YOUR NOT FARMILIAR WITH OR HAVENT WALKED! Oh and one more thing, dont go alone!

hahaha....unmolested... Thats good. I must admit...you give us stock guys hope w/ those pics...or atleast that one . You may have gotten stuck but you got balls to try that ditch w/ a stocker. Awesome man...glad to hear everythings all good w/ the KJ. See ya on the trail!

Frankly, it the position it's in, I don't think tires or lift would have helped. So not too worry, we all learn from our mistakes. Some recovery gear would have solved your problem; jack all (or winch), straps or maybe even a shovel. The big thing is never go alone!

I do not believe he wanted to be in that ditch. He slid into it by the way it looks. Tires would help more than anything. Those are tires for a minivan, not a jeep. Glad no one was hurt..

I'll need a strap and tow hooks to bail *him* out. As far as damage, it did rip off the lower plastic molding (re-installed), smallish dents in the passenger side doors, and tweek the alignment. Hopefully, I'll get the alignment issues straightened out this Saturday. The dents are gonna have to wait.

The back end just slid around and there we were. The youngest kid panicked a bit but was clamed down. They were real real troopers. I am glad nobody was hurt. And the KJ just came back for more. Truly a tough vehicle.

Yeah, that mud out there sometimes has a bit of clay mixed in, and when it gets wet it gets very slickery (yes, I said 'slickery'). Good thing you got it out OK. Just remember everything in life is a lesson waiting to happen

I used to live in Eunice and Roswell back in the old days(1979-84) . We used to go out in the sand hills for fun with my 81 CJ5 Golden eagle. It is amazing how fast the rain in that state turns things from fun to scary . I'm glad it worked out ok for you and yours, ditto on the never go alone. Good luck, keep wheeling.

I'd wheel with an Fj any day of the week. Lots of em come with lockers front and rear. If the dudes tires are Revos and he can drive, I promise that FJ will outwheel your stock KJ. No disrespect, just what I have seen first hand many times over.

*ROY UPDATE* After clogging up the carwash at work , I got an estimate on the body repair. $1200 to fix dents and repaint. $2300 to make it look like new (replace scratched up plastic). I did an alignment on him today and he is now tracking straight again. That was important to me because I didn't want him to start eating tires. May go out tomorrow with my buddy and his new FJ. If I go, I will post some pics.

Yeah man I was pretty darn surprised too. They are just too big. I couldn't believe we had one break out there also. We where just driving along a sandy wash and his steering gear box blew. Only a few Jeep and a few hummers, and the hummers kept breaking and getting stuck. So much for a 100 grand invincible machine.
