Post subject:  245 75 16 they fit a stocker
i read the warnings and did it anyway! I put 245-75-16 mtr's on a stock liberty and have zero problems, even after a weekend of mud and trails in northern michigan. i was just curious where people were finding rubbing because i have not noticed any even when turning on hard uphill off raod angles? just a side note the tires are awesome, I pulled the liberty through a couple mud holes that i was sure i would get stuck. Also is the diesel suspension any different because i am running the little diesel and was wondering if that is why they fit?

there are some beefier springs in the front of the CRD I believe then in the gasser...but as far as rubbing, have you gone in reverse at full lock yet...usually that is where some people will find their rubbing. You might just want to check your inner liner to make sure it isn't rubbinng anyway and you just couldn't hear it, but then again you might have done that and thus posted what you did, just a thought. Congrats on the tires though, and where are the pics of you using them????

245/75 mtr's on moabs and a frankenlift here, and they rubbed until I did some cutting and pounding!

I dont think so on a stocker :?

Maybe he's deaf and on drugs....or the thing was bought used and someone had already "conditioned" the KJ for those size tires but reverted the KJ back to stock height before selling.

I found in reverse on a hard turn they rub a little on the small plastic piece that sits directly behind the front. no its not used and no lift was installed i will have pics by monday or tuesday waiting for the wife to get back from vacation with the camera. I cant talk about drug use that not pc. one more quick question for the drug users what is behind that piece of pastic and can i cut into it?

I believe it because I had 245/75's(MT/R's) on my stock KJ,I transfered them off my '01 grand when I bought the KJ.They rubbed the foglamp access door like crazy in reverse but did not touch the pinch weld,but I do have a prelowered KJ also.After 2 weeks and ripping one foglamp door off I switched to 225/75 MT/R's till I lifted it.

Behind the plastic on the drivers side is soundproofing - behind the plastic on the passengers side is the windshield wiper fluid reservoir.

I have a 2005 CRD and 245/70s lightly rub in the front at the fog lights if I have a hard bump in reverse and am hard locked over. The 245/75s I tried were within 1/8 inch of rubbing at full lock with no suspension travel, they would have hit front and back easy without the lift.

Rock crawling might be a different story as you tend to get a lot more suspension flex.

running Wild Country TXR 245/75/16 on my 02'
same trouble with the fog light flap and had to pound flat the pinch weld due to slight rubbing..... after 12,000 miles on my tires and still no lift... the tires seem to be holding up pretty well..... i still get rubbing at full lock at take off and in reverse... and try to avoid hitting drives ways to fast....

my fog lights are are in my grill so i don't have a problem there. no rubbing in forward only in reverse. than again its hard to in sign lang. while your high!

before my tires me and a friend with an 05 renegade compared and i was 1" taller... so i think after 02 they were all lowered by 1"...

I had them on my '05 stock too. They rubbed like crazy in reverse while turning. Rubbed the pinch weld slighty too both ways, I only noticed that cause went through some mud and by the time i parked it i could see exactly where it was rubbing cause the areas of contact were clean as the rest was just filthy. Mine also rubbed at full lock on the sway bar. They were also about an 1/8" from the top of the knuckle/upperball joint/ upper a-arm.


Hard to believe only the rubbing in reverse. :roll:

I just got some 245/75/16 tires on my 05 renegade today. Finally about a year after i had my rustys lift on. Of course i notice rubbing when backing up full lock and making sharp turns. Does anyone have any pictures or can tell me exactly what i need to modify to get rid of the rubbing?

What most guys are doing is their pounting the pinch weld down flat, inwards. The pinch weld in question is located at the back of each front wheel well. You will see what I mean, it's covered by a plastic piece that sticks out further than the rest of the wheel well. You will have to remove some of the plastic that covers it. Take a big hammer and pound it inwards until it's flat. Make sure to cover it with undercoating, paint, primer, etc. to prevent rusting. Whatever you do, don't cut the pinch weld off!

For the front if you're getting rubbing there, guys have been using heat guns right around the foglight door and rolling some of the plastic there outwards to give the tire the needed clearance. My rubbing in the front is so minimal that I'm not even going to mess with it. I don't have any issues at the pinch weld with my 245/75/16 Grabber AT2's.

in the front wheel well ( on the back of it ) there's a pertrution sticking out that's the pinch weld most of the guy's here cut that plastic to expose the pinch weld then hammer it flat DON'T CUT THE METAL just hammer it flat,also some have ribbing on the fog light doors some have taken it out some have melted the plastic a bit,if I'm missing anything I know someone will pipe in,but this is a common procedure with that size tire

thanks...i dont seem to be having troubles with the pinch weld. Just the front when i make a sharp turn to the right or left or backing up left or right. If i was to cut that out up front would that cause a problem or should i get a heat gun instead?
