Post subject: | Power Steering Fluid |
On my way home tonight the jeep was making a noise whenever I made a sharp turn. I checked the power steering fluid when I got home and it was really low. I looked in the manual and it says to contact the dealer for propper fluid. Yeah right. ![]() |

Jeeps are finicky w/ PS fluid, (at least mine are) I would go to the dealer and get the Mopar fluid. |

Have you looked for a leak? It has to have gone somewhere. |

I had a problem like that myself. It was almost like a whining sound when you turned, ahrd to describe exactly. But topped off PS fluid and was all good, no sound. Dealer also checked shortly after but couldn't see anything. So that most have been the fix. You should be able to pick up ATF +4 at Wally world, Napa, ect. For awhile you could only get it from a DC dealer but luckily that's changed. |

I looked all over for a leak and couldn't find one anywhere. Nothing in the engine compartment or on the garage floor. I picked up a quart of ATF+4 and topped it off.I am going to keep an eye on the fluid level and keep checking for leaks. Thanks for the advice. |

ATF+4 may not be the correct PS fluid for all KJs. When I was at the dealership one night with a mechanic friend, I was reading a Chrysler note that I believe said not to use ATF+4 unless the PS service has been done. I think it said that some of the earlier KJs had a different type of fluid, but it should be removed and replaced with ATF+4. This was at least a year ago and it hasn't crossed my mind untill now because it didn't affect my '04. Just a thought, if you have an earlier KJ it might be a good idea to give them a call. |

Mine has been alittle loud also. I just put the 245/70/16 tires on with the crager rims about a week ago.. Wonder if the extra weight has anything to do with it? I guess I should check my fluid.. ![]() |

I called the dealership and they asked what year the Liberty was and they told me I needed the ATF+4. So it should be ok, I hope. |
