I have enough money saved away to buy a new bumper. I cant decide though if I want to buy the ARB, can get a really good deal on one, or build a bumper similar to the All J bumper. I have been in contact with a fabricator that said he could build it in a few days, just would need to leave the libby with him. Costs he said could range from $350-600.

I like the look of both, but the ARB would be easier to install as I wouldnt have to relocate the washer bottle plus if I decide later I want a winch it could be easily installed.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Brian

I've put some thought into this as well. In my opinion, I think you would be happier if you sat down with a fabricator and had him build EXACTLY what you want. This way you have complete control over all the specs, you can add shackle tabs, a hitch receiver, a winch mount, light tabs, whatever you want, and it will all be arranged how you want it. You can specify the height, bends, and thickness of the bull bar, the material that he uses for the bumper, etc, etc. I think you'll have a lot more versatility with something that you have built to your own specs. Plus, you'll have the pride of saying "yeah, that's one-off." or "yeah, i designed that." And it could possibly be cheaper. In short, i'd give the custom bumper some SERIOUS thought...

I have been thinking about this for the last month or so. Just cant decide. The custom bumper would be cool, and there were things I could/would add to the design. Plus, I think the fabircator wants to be able to offer the bumper to other KJ owners and basically needs a vehicle to do the mock up and build.

Still cant decide.

Well i guess my reason for saying go with the fabricator is that i like the ARB, the TR bumper and RLs bumper, all for different reasons. I figure that with a custom design i could incorporate the best of all three into one kickass bumper. I'll probably be going to WyoTech come next September, so i might be able to do all the fab work myself...
