I saw this on the old EZboard and loved it, getting the bottom half of the doors sprayed with Line-X.
I am getting it done on Saturday, and he quoted me 225, so im pretty happy with it.

I will keep all you posted and sure get some pictures of it up as soon as i can.

Sean,
I am real interested in doing the same. My thought was to take my KJ to the the local Rihno in hopes of having a chip guard effect applied to all lower surfaces.

That's a great price for Line-X!! THey quoted me $800!! I went with a Rhino-lining shop that did it for $200.

When I went in I mentioned I knew someone who had it done for 200, and he said he could do it for 225. I wasnt about to pay more than 200ish for it. Do you think I should also get my Mopar rock rails lined? I said no because I like them being silver, but I don't know if it would be worth it, seeing as they haven't been found to hold up to hard enough use to warrant paying for the lining on them.

He said usually the charge 400+ to do a pickup bed, but there they only have to mask half the vehicle because only 1/2 of it is in the spray booth, but with a Liberty, he would have to mask everything... roof, underbody, hood, rear, etc... That could be why some people were getting higher quotes... but it wouldnt explain why I got a lower one.

Also, I was thinking of having my front grill done at a later time - help with bug splatter, stone chips and branches. Any idea how this would effect the following:
1) Air flow to the radiator
2) Heat from the engine trying to escape
3) The way it would fit after being sprayed, obviously it will be bigger, as it has a layer of the Line-X on it.

Um excuse me.....

Can I ask why? The way I see, the last thing my Jeep (KJ) needs is (unnecssary) added weight?! It's a Jeep, scratches are cool man. Okay, so that's why I wouldn't do it.

It provides added protection. Even though scratches can be a "story," I'd rather not have my KJ all scarred up. A tree branch sticking out too far and digging down the side of my KJ isn't that great of a story.

Surface scratches are one thing, but scratches all the way down to the metal will lead to rust. Before my KJ was repainted I had quite a few gouges all the way to bare sheetmetal.

I understand that however I don't think the extra weight of lining is worth it. I'll just airbrush touchup's. But don't get me wrong, I find the "pros" (opinions) to lining interesting none the less.

How heavy are we talking about here? It doesn't seem to me like the lining adds any significant weight ...

Yeah, I am wondering the same thing. Dh lined the inside of his TJ. He used a gallon of Herculiner. No way int he world that is a lot of weight.

I seriously doubt I added more than 8 to10 lbs to my KJ with the Lining on the sides.

Why not wait until it is all scratched up then line it? As I see it, you want to prevent scratches on the paint by "painting" over it with liner. What's the difference? I can understand if you just think it is cool, narly, rad, bad, or whatever the phrase is used nowadays, but it doesn't make sense to line it to prevent scratches.

You might as well line the whole KJ because you will get scratches on the upper part of the body (roof, doors, hood) also.

Lets say I get it done Saturday, and I go out and wheel on Sunday and get a scratch down the side that I would have gotten down to bare metal... but instead the coating protected me from damaging the metal.

It's not just scratches, it's also rock and road debris chips. Look closely at the bottom half of your doors and fender flares and you'll probably notice that they are completely covered in chips. I know mine are.

Besides, as you say, it looks cool! :)

I found a company (I've forgotten the name, but I have the brochure at home) that can color match anything and they even do metallics. I'm thinking about having them coat the bottom half of my doors, my fenders, bumpers and grille, now that I can do so and keep that distinctive Freedom Edition look. :D

Can you post the information back here. I was thinking about doing it with my Renegade, but would only do it if they could color match my paint job, and i'm wondering how it would work with the bushwacker style fender flairs with the "bolts".

It's hard to tell in your picture but isn't your KJ black?

Also, as for the arguement about the rhinolining getting scratched up... well, it doesn't pretty much.. at least not like the paint. Something that would leave a permenant mark on the lining would have been down to bare metal on normal paint.
