Well I get into the commuter parking lot at school and take a look underneath the KJ to the front suspension. I look at the coilover springs, or front springs, whatever you choose to call them, or whatever there really called and at the same spot on both there are definite rub marks. I assume they are from contact from the UBJ and Upper A-arm and happen when the suspension is at full droop. I know some of you have had this happen but my use of the search option above yielded 207 pages of uselessness (or from what I read on the first 3 pages at least). What are some options here for me? I know there are Al's A-arms which will move the arm out a wee bit and most likely stop the contact or at least move it further down the spring. I can also add a bump stop to the backside of the upper a-arm correct? What have you done to combat this issue? By the way the mark is probably about the size of a dime on the actual spring or coil or whatever (someone clarify the name for me please). THANKS for the help.

-Scott

I've never had contact directly on the spring, ever, even with the stock a-arms.
It's always good to replace OEM parts with beefier components, so I'd go for a set of aftermarket arms if you can afford it (not really that expensive). You add bumpstops to the bottom the strut assembly, the base that holds the spring and strut. That's normally where the a-arm ball joint area tends to hit the assembly. This might help prevent your spring contact.

And be sure to contact RRO and see if they have any fix suggestions.

Im confused by what you mean RespectMyLibertay? :? The balljoint can hit the spring if it droops far enough like you said.. But you also said it cannot? :?

Scott,

I have the Daystar 2.5" lift. Contact is inevitable with the design of our front ends. Plan on replacing your upper stock Upper A-arms repeatedly (I've had to put a new set on each of the last three years). The arms are rock solid, but the ball joints can't take the beating.

I just put a set of Jeepin Al's arms on and they still hit, but the contact point is solid and I'm comforted that the ball joints are serviceable and replaceable.

Todd

You need to add a set of bumpstops to the daystar spacer as pictured below. If you got it from All-J, I assume they will send you the bumpstops free of charge-- that is what they are doing for Frankenlift owners.

Hey Eddo, in that 2nd pic where the UBJ isn't contacting, isn't the a-arm still contacting the spring above it though...it kinda looks like it from the pic???

Looks like I'll just bumpstop it for now and then when the funds are good enough dive into some Al's Arms and Moogs...

Nope, hard to tell from the angle, but about 1/8" of clearance. Not much, but just enough.

What is it you used anyway?...looks like a chunk of rubber with a hose clamp around the bottom of the spring/strut assembly...

Still th eangle is there though. I guess it is not like that alll the time anyways so its not like it really would hurt anything anyways, but if you lifted one of them tires and fully drooped them enough I could see it doin damage.
