Argh, I've got not emergency brake "left"

Sure, I could go to the stealership and get it fixed, but I'm going wheeling this weekend (yea, I'm a millionaire).

Can anyone give some advice on how to adjust it? I know it's a quick adjust, but don't remember where I've seen it. Thanks.

if yours has the drum brakes in the rear, there is no adjustment. It "auto" adjusts with a lever/ratchet system that tightens it when you set it or go reverse.

If you have the drum in rear, try to remove the drum and wash the dirt/mud out, then spray with some brake cleaner. Also could check if springs are missing/loose, or if your brake shoes are bad.

If you have the disk rear, well this is of no use and I have no clue.

Same thing for the rear disc brakes. The indoes of the rotor is actually a drum for the paring brake. Sorry, no adjustments can be made.

I'm confused, which is there no adjustment for? I have 4 wheel disc. and my ebrake is very loose.. may have been due to the fact that I drove up a mud hill with it cranked...

on both, the e-brake is self adjusting

each time you back up and push the brake it adjusts, also whenever you set the brake it adjusts. if it is loose, the best bet is to try to clean it or check your shoes and springs holding it all together. I had no e-brake, but then I took it apart, and then cleaned out all of the mud and dirt, then it worked.

The e-brake does not work off of the brake pads that you can see. There is a drum in the rear which houses a set of brake shoes which is the parking brake.

on dics: there is an adjustment on that inner drum parking brake and it's just like the old fashions cog-type wheel that you can adjust.

But also know that htere's a known failure at the lever - inside the Jeep. Mine, after the wife drove with the p-brake on for a few ticks, started to intermittantly not grab. The lever would go all the way up without really catching anything. then sometimes it would work fine. sometimes, I could feel it almost "let go" on me.

I had it replaced (under extended warranty). Good thing since it was a $300 repair! I'm loving my aftermarket $0 ded 10/100 b2b warranty so far!

setting the brake slowly while rolling backward works to reset mine. '03 Renny. I also notice that pulling quickly on the e-brake really increases the chance of it slipping and not catching. A slow, deliberate setting of the brake works best for me.....

I had mine adjusted at the dealer. I have the 4 wheel discs. I'm not sure what they did but now it is very stiff and catches at two clicks and wont go up any further without some effort.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Thanks Dave, I'll see if I can get my dealer to fix mine then.

I had my local "5 Star" dealer check my e-brake because it seemed "loose". They said it was fine. I tested it this morning and the handle can be pulled as far back as possible and I can still roll forward.

I'm going to check out some of the suggestions here. If that doesn't work, it's time to find a different shop.

Adam, do you have more info on that "known failure at the lever"?

I tried this in my driveway when I got home from work. It worked great.

If you still need details on what was replaced, let me know. It was the attachment point inside the car - where the cable is afixed to the actual lever.

I'll pull the receipt when I get home. It's as I described above - parking brake assembly replaced (interior).
