Post subject: | Diff collar on CRD |
Back when Eddo came up with the idea of a reinforcing collar for the front differential - he used a steel McMaster part 60665K61 and machined/sanded the inside to match the differential. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=5187&highlight=diff+collar I ordered one but never got around to installing it - and then there was a group buy for an Aluminum version - well the Aluminum was too large and didn't fit CRD's ![]() ![]() Well over the holidays I finally tried installing the steel version and it seems to fit - close to the frame but no rattles (street driving right now) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Did you have to do anything special to slip the collar into place? That is a very tight fit. |

Well - I had the diff out to put the Truetrac in and bolted on the collar at the same time - I think there's room to slip it around - but I didn't try that. |

The best answer is that no one knows for sure, it's a precaution, costs about $50 and some time maching/sanding. I've fairly sure no one with the collar has broken a Differential case, and a couple of them have been wheeled fairly hard. However I've only heard of a few people (4 or 5?) breaking the case without it - a fairly small percentage. So to prove it you'd need a statistically significant sample - over a statistically significant timeframe - that hasn't happened. |
