Quick question for my fellow Liberty owners . . .
What kind of reactions do you normally get when you attend a 4x4 or Jeep get together?
Let me put it this way, there are only two lifted Liberties that I know of in Eastern Nebraska (mine & one of my friends has one)
There is a club in Omaha (Just Jeeps of Omaha), and someone is working on starting a new club in Lincoln.
I have been to events organized by each group, and have received very mixed reactions from my liberty.
For the most part people have been very unreceptive and somewhat mocking, while very few have actually acknowledged my jeep.
I was just wondering, because I'm hoping that not everyone is so closed minded towards something that seems somewhat normal to me (but that's
what I get for hanging out on this forum - it makes me think that everyone has a lifted liberty.)

It just seems odd that some people are more accepting of a person that drives a 4 year old, bone stock sahara wrangler, rather than
someone that has a Liberty that he lifted with the help of some good friends, and is always looking to make more improvements.
(Not that acceptance is important, I could care less, I just want to hear about other people's experiences.)

I think that I am just going to have to take a long weekend and go hang out with the L.O.S.T. Rockies guys - it looks like they have a lot of fun.

That's my $.02

Go on a trail ride with them and show them what the Libby can do, they'll shut up pretty quick. At least that's been my experience!

Image

I didn't hear a negative remark the rest of the day after they watched me do this obstacle, especially since the first guy in a Wrangler on 35's spun sideways trying to get up and had to winch himself over it.

Most people Ive been around are amazed where Ive had my Jeep. Some people think thats its awesome while other people look down on me. Usually people that own xj's and tj's will look down on ya.

Any other Jeep boards on the internet will call ya lame if they know you drive a libby.

At Paragon a few months ago, some guy in a brand new, 4" lifted, sweet rubicon came up to a bunch of us because he wanted "to take it easy" on his new toy.

There were 5 of us I tihnk, 4 Liberties and WV0|||||||0 in his stock rubicon.

The guy with the lifted Rubi went home broken. The res tof us did not.

NEVER BEEN TO AN 'ORGANIZED EVENT'. BUT OUT IN THE 40 ACRE WOODS, OTHER JEEP GUYS USUALLY START OFF WITH "YOU AIN'T GONNA TAKE THAT THING BACK THERE ARE YA?" OR "HEY, YOU DO GOT A TOW STRAP DON'T YA?"
I USUALLY RESPOND WITH , "WELL, THAT'S WHAT I'M HERE FOR", AND"YEAH, I GOT A STRAP, I'LL PULL YOU OUT WHEN YA NEED IT"
I'M ALL STOCK, '03 RENEGADE, THEY TEND TO SHUT UP WHEN I'M DOIN' IT RIGHTIOUSLY...

Sounds pretty typical. Just consider it a challenge when people act that way.

ditto on that remark  I belong to 2 other clubs besides this one, only wheeled with one so far but these guy's are 90% tj & such but they were pretty impressed with what the KJ did :D yes I did take the strap twice but only because I was in some thick goo & my tires where like racing slicks all caked up, BUT both clubs are open to ANY JEEP :!:

MY HOME is still HERE though :)

What did he break?

Rear stabilizer arm and tri-link. or however many pooints a rubi rear link has.

Then agian, half-way through the 1-hour he spent with us before he broke he said "Where's all the mud? All we're doing is climbing over rocks"

http://jeep.allgris.com/paragon09-16/

The mud came AFTER he broke. poor silly newb.

The moral of the story is...

It doesn't matter how much money you pay a dealer to build you a "real jeep". If you can't drive it, you wasted $50,000

Its like when we go out riding, (Harleys) some of the guys I ride with will NEVER wave at anything but another Harley, me I wave at everybody because we are all out there with our knees in the breeze enjoying life! 8) When I first moved to Toledo NOBODY waved back but now a few of the lifted TJs do every now and again. Stopped by a local 4WD shop just to check it out. Everyone saw me pull in, showroom emptied as I was looking around,I thought they all went back into the shop part, here they went out through the shop and was looking at my KJ! Had to laugh

They've got it right. This site was started to have a place away from the close minded folks and have a place to gather and share ideas without getting slammed. We have opened a lot of eyes about what a KJ can do. Some folks just take a little longer to get it. So...show them how it's done! It's rough, but don't get discouraged. (it's that or move to Colorado? )

I don't know usually when I go wheeling with my club there is always somebody down there that will ask one of the guys how my KJ does. They end up calling me over to give me crap about the my Mall Rated KJ but quickly follow up with it does really well. The last big event that out club sponsered I was the only KJ out of 130 rigs. As I walked through the line up on the way to my KJ, I heard 3 different groups of guy talking about it. Most were just curious about how well it does but one was kinda fesious about it. I went and added the guy to the group I was in. He was in a full sized F-150 on 33's and his was in a bronco on 33's and I walked up hills it took him 20 mins to get up. (this was in 6"s of snow in the morning and 6"s of mud and muck by the afternoon). When I got to the top of the first hill he had problems he gave me a dirty look when I was asked if I was locked and said nope open all the way around. But he's been the only one that really seemed like he cared one way or the other.
Most people say it's a good looking rig and leave it at that though. And now that I think about it my grandpa bought a TJ to tow behind his RV and he gives me more crap about driving a KJ, than anybody else does.

It's good to know that there is "family" here.
I haven't been to any real "off road events", just gatherings so far. Hopefully I will do a good job showing what a Liberty can do when I go on a trail run with one of the groups.
I was actually looking for a job in Colorado a little while back, and I ended up finding something in Omaha. (I have friends and family there, so I will always have an "excuse" to visit!)

I'm not big on meetings and I'm not big on social clubs. What I've found is that if you show up on the trail and wheel it like you stole it, they'll give you respect. I've had nothing but positive experiences on the trail and reactions towards the Liberty.
