1 question on the optima red top how do they hold up in very cold weather,we'll be down to probably -6 degrees tonight with the windchill & had a high of 12 today I know all other conditions are ok for it from what I've read here but not too much talk about the winter months for those that have cold weather unless I missed it |

When I lived in South Dakota my red top optima survived 3 winters and seeing temps down to -30 degrees for for days.Upgraded to the yellow top when I got my winch, now my old red top is still going strong in my old man's generator(and still in SD) not bad for being 5 years old. |

They are great all around, I really cant think of anything better you could replace it with, other than perhaps the optima yellowtop, but for engine cranking the red top is hard to beat. |

I currently have 5 redtops in various vehicles. All at least 3 years old, no problems....Cold has never been an issue. I have killed a couple, but they lasted several years and were abuse badly! |

cool thanks guy's for your comments, I was just realy consirned with the bitter cold ( well at least for us) & how it would perform in the teens & below I know all batteries will struggle in the cold, but realy want one of these one more thing how will it hold up if I add 2 HELLA 500's to my bumper & run them along with the headlights & possible factory driving lights during bad weather ????? |

When home in SD I run the back roads with all my lights on with no problems, sometimes all my lights are on for an hour or more at a time. Here are some pics all lit up.Optimas are my battery choice from now on,the only battery I have found that I would use is a Odessey battery PC2250,but it won't fit in the KJ unless i remote mount it. ![]() ![]() |
