| Post subject: | Rear Diff oil leak |
Hey guy's, my wife and I are the new owners of an 06 Liberty Renegade and I've been following this forum for a little bit now. We bought it to replace the 06 Rubicon that we had stolen from out in front of our appartment. While I know it is not a Rubicon, it is still fun to drive and wheel with. My question is regaurding the rear diff. Shortly after we bought it we smelt burning oil intermittantly from the passanger side rear of the vehicle. After taking it to the dealership and them telling my wife it was the new car smell as well as not locating the leak, I climbed under and found the leak to be coming out of the input shaft of the front differential and spraying the exhaust manifold. Has anyone else had this problem with thier rear difs and is it a recuring problem? We are goning back to the dealer thismorning and I will talk to the Service manager about this and other issues. Thanks for your help Randy |

Welcome to the boards! I have a bad/leaking pinion seal on my front differential. Dealer was supposed to order the part and call me in 4 days. That was nearly a month ago. My leak's not bad, so I'll wait until warmer weather to follow up. I hope your dealership experience is better than mine have been lately. T.J. |

It's not normal, mine hasn't leaked for 5+ years now. Make them fix the pinion seal. |

Here's an update to our adventure at the dealership. The Liberty was at the dealership for 2 days. When we turned it in we spoke directly with the Service Center Manager concering our previous experiences and our current problems. We also explained that due to our different schedules we needed the vehicle back as soon as possible. In the mean time they gave us a rental car so we could go our seperate ways. When we picked up the Liberty, The driverside rear window motor/regulator had been replaced, the front allignment had been fixed, the rear pinion seal had been replaced (Assistant manager stated that there was less than a 1/2" of fluid left in the diff). This experiance had been a major improvment over the last several experiences. Maybe they will evaluate how their mechanics operate or look at the QA/QC program a little close. On a side note the only reason I didnt do the work is the vehicle is brand new and still under waranty. |

I had my front pinion seal go at 45K. It was just a couple of months after lifting it and anding tires. The dealer replaced it under the 7/70 and it only costed $100 for the deductable. Since then, no problems... |

My front pinion seal went out around 55K. I was too lazy to change it myself then, I wish I would have. I only paid $112.00 for the work. No prob. since. |
