I have had my Liberty for about a month now. Couple things puzzle me so far. One is the 3.7. When its running there is an almost ticking like sound. Why do they do that? If you open the hood while its running its more noticeable. I dont really notice it above idle.

BTW: great board!

Depending on how loud it is fuel injectors make a light clicking noise that you may or may not hear at idle.

could be a valve that is sticking, when is the last time you did an oil change and how frequent do you change it?

I guess you didn't notice that he said he has had it one month now and it is a 2007.

Actually i have heard of some vehicles that can get a "noisy"(sticking) valve if the oil change isn't done when required (Had it happen on one of my vehicles and it was also almost new.) Iam not sure home many miles you have on it in one month but the first oil change should be done sooner then regulary required since the jeep is just getting broke in and the oil can get a bit dirty within that first amount of miles. It might be just a normal sound that you are hearing also, not sure if i havent heard it.

Was told by Jeep dealer it was normal. Its not a loud noise. It actually sounds more like a chain on a sprocket type of noise rather than a ticking. The jeep has 3300 miles and just had its first oil change at 3000.

I know other 3.7's make the same noise. I rented a 2007 GC with the same motor about 2 months ago and it was the same way. Not worried about it-Just wondering what it is.

wow 3000 for the first oil change? you should be on the second or third by now. that was a very long time to leave those chunks floating around in there.

i recommend changing it at 500 and again at 1000-1200 and then again at 3000. my cars dont burn oil, even the ones with over 150k miles.
