Post subject: | Question about 4 part-time |
I was ready to run my Jeep (05 Limited stock) through a rock -gravel road. The largest of rocks were the size of a kid's basketball and no threat to damage the underside as they were pretty close together. Coming up to the road I put it in 4 Part Time which was a true gravel road and probably 30 yards long. Everything was fine but as we came off the rocks we had to make a gradual 45 degree turn back on a flat dirt road. (like pulling into a parking space). It felt like my emergency brake was on while making that turn onto that flat road. I had to back up and straighten it up to move forward. Was this the cause of a flat road? It was only about 10 yards I was in part time on flat ground. |

No, it is a characteristic of the part-time 4WD system; when you engage it the turning radius increases. Here is some info regarding Command Trac: The Command-Tracâ„¢ transfer case is the heart of the Command-Tracâ„¢ part-time 4WD system. When engaged, both front and rear driveshafts are locked by a chain and gearset, which always turn at the same speed, forming a single drive unit. This is a rigid connection that does not allow for any differential action between front and rear driveshafts. Normal front-to-rear differences in the turning radii of the wheels (when cornering) are compensated for only through wheel slippage on driving surfaces. This transfer case allows for 2WD, 4WD High-Range and Low-Range as well as Neutral. Hope this helps explain things. |
