Post subject:  Chopped Front Bumper

I bought a renegade front bumper of UNIXX. So I had my old front bumper layin around that had been used and abused. I was bored today and decided to mess with it a lil bit and here's what came out.

As you can see the approach angle is greatly increased. I decided to make this my new "trail" bumper for when I go out in the bush for more than just a cruise.

Tell me what ya think?

I like it.

I have thought of doing the same with mine. After cutting out the bottom screws once the lower was removed. How did you keep the cover from flapping around? Did you somehow make your own attachments? Do you have any under side shots?

It actually is decently sturdy but I need to get some peices of aluminum and make some brackets from the back of the cover(rivet to cover) to where the two bolts are on the bottom of the radiator mount then it would be like a rock, or a plastic rock. :?

It is funny that you know, I guess the military is one of the only places that would block sites.

Thanks for the pics, I was under mine the other day looking. I figured if I needed additional support I could easily fab off the front hitch with no problems. Time to go to whittlin' it looks like.

Wow, that looks great! It looks stock (minus the custom contoured outside corners  ) which is awesome. Great work!

Thanks for the good words guys. It really is only a 10 footer though. When you get up close you can see how my "shakes" transfer over to my dremel ability. I think i am going to cut up my new bumper in the same manner as well. The look is growing on me. Just need to find someone with a steady hand to follow the tape I lay out on the bumper.

Last night I was thinking about this. After looking at the photos again, I don't see your washer bottle. Did you have to move it?

If I remeber right my CRDs washer bottle is just a little bit above level on that part of the bumper, I think the gassers are even higher.

Didn't have to move it. It pretty much sits level with that part of the bumper. You can see the corner of it here.

Now if someone would fab up a steal (or whatever they use) bumper that looked just like this I would buy one in a heart beat!

Post subject:  It does look better

Yep, it does look better. I did the same thing on mine but didn't cut the fenders quite as high. The washer reservoir is there and I'd hate to catch something on my tire and tear it out. Better to move it and be safe. Also, I thought the front dropped subframe looked like it needed to be covered/protected so I fabbed a skid/slide plate to do that. I'm computer illiterate so until someone can tell me how to add pics inside my post and "avatar", I'll post them on my http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2591493 site.[/url]
Also, it's funny to hear ya'll describe these problems. I made some brackets out of metal strip and riveted the "flapper" bumper to them. Check the pics, it works good until I can fab a bumper.
