Looking under the KJ this morning. The inside right boot is wet so either a cat sprayed it or I've got a tear in it.

Is there a good alternative to replacing it with another factory boot? Is there a solution to replacing it without having to tear down the whole side (as the old Beetles had; a wrap around and seal solution.)?

Advice desired. TYIA

Is this boot on the front axel or drive shaft? On my KJ, I had a boot torn on the front drive shaft on the transfer case side of the drive shaft. The dealer replaced the drive shaft.

On my 300M, I had a boot on the front axel that was torn from an accident. White greese was spraying out from the tear.

Can you actually see a tear or does it just look wet?

I suggest not putting your boots under the KJ... put them in the garage or something, less chance they will get wet that way. Also i'm not sure if attaching your boots to the axle is a good idea... it may dry them out after they get wet, but I think it may cause some vibration.

Sorry I can't be any real help here.

I think if the boot was torn on the axel, you would see white greese rather than it looking wet. If it was looking wet around the pinion seal or diff cover, then I believe you sould be leaking gear lube. The axel boot spins, so it it has a tear, it will be through grease and stuff out along the wheel well.

In any event to be safe, have the dealer look at it. They should be able to diagnose it with out any charge by just looking at it.
