| Post subject: | Roof rack load capacity |
I was wondering if anyone can tell me why the roof rack load capacity on my '04 Renny is so much less then a sport or a limited. The roof rack capacity for the Renny is only 65lbs compared to 150lbs for the non Renny. I think it may be a rating for the tupperware roof basket from the factory but I do not know. Can anyone help? |

This has been answered before. The Renegade is rated for offroad use, since the load is greater uptop when you're offroad, tossing the cargo up there all over. Sport and Limited ratings are for "less extreme" roof top cargo holding (driving on road). Either way, the stock rails are crap, making something steel would give you some real cargo ratings up there. |

well, also two other factors: 1) the rest of the renegade basket hardware adds up the weight, 2) the stock Rene cross rails are mounted with a weak bracket from underneath. (Unless you replace them with extended Thule rails that rest ON TOP of the stock euro rails. But who would be smart enough to do that?   )
