I was just going to place an order for some skids at JParts and noticed that the Transmission skid is for 2005 - 2007 and the transfer case skid is for 2004 - 2007 Liberty's.

I have a 2003. Will these work for me?

You will need to drill come holes in your tranny cross member for the tranny skid. You may also need to beat on the skid some with a BFH so it will clear the exhaust.

I ordered the 2004 tcase skid and I had one hole that didnt line up on my 2004 Liberty. I didnt worry about drilling a hole for it, i figured 3 would do just fine. If I ever come down hard on the corner, I would need the 4th bolt though. :?

I'm ordering the same skid(s) tomarrow also for my 02' Sport from the same place (jparts). I hope they will work without alot of modification.

Callaway...can you make the run on the 23rd to the badlands? It'd be nice to see another KJ out there...and I'll be stock too!!

02' thru 04' should be the same right? There was no change in these years?

So that means you'll make it???? :D

Ah c'mon...leave it stock (height) so we can take the orange trail in the stockers!!!! Makes it more of a challenge.

And I'm the same way...hoping these suckers make it in time for next friday too!

No, they are not the same. The tranny skid will be harder for you to be on since you have the 45rfe tranny. You will need to drill holes in the tranny cross member, beat a flat spot in the skid, and maybe add some washers.

This is an 02 libby with the mopar skid:

Im not sure how the tcase skid will do on your 02. :?

So Mopar never made a tranny skid for the 02's? Or they discontinued it?

Where can I find an actual bolt-on (no mods) tranny skid for the 02'?

I can modify it but I dont really want to take the time...(if possible)

i just called jparts and was told that the transmission and transfer case skids were discontinued for earlier models (02/03). I was also told that they would fit, but would require some drilling and a BFH to cajole them into place.

Yes, the exhaust downpipe. It's that rusty mofo on the left side of the picture, behind the front crossmember.

Yeah, those washers look like rolls of quarters.

FastTRX, have you considered the SuperSkid? It covers the gap between crossmembers. There's also the Rusty's skid, which is cheaper still (but smaller). According to the Rusty's side, drilling one hole is required.

Videoguy...I'm going to go w/ the cheapest right now. I'll settle w/ modifying them w/ a BFH  and drilling holes if I have to. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

guys ithis is just my opinion but dont waste the time and money on the OE trany skid
it offers very little protection and is a PITA to install
I helped nolakj instal his and it took over an hour ,on an '03
the first time he hit a log with it the skid was toast "You get what you pay for"

get the good skid and be done with it

I just put a trans skid on an 02 with the 45RFE. All it took was one extra hole in the trans skid and big hammer to pound down the area where the skid contacts the exhaust. You could put the hole in the crossmember if you wanted, but it was easier just to drill the skid.

Also, you need to knock the two installation helper tabs off or hit them out of the way, which is about as difficult as driving a nail into a 2x4.

The exhaust is set up the same on the 02 and 03, so it should be any different for an 03 than an 02. The size of the transmission doesn't play a factor, even with the large 45RFE in the 02 it doesn't even come close to being in the way.

My tranny skid bolted right up and only drilled one hole?? Never got to use my big hammer or anything. As far as hitting something with it, maybe its not as strong but then you just have to pay a little more attention and not go banging across everything like a mad man!

I have the Mopar tranny skid on my '03. One hole drilled into cross member, no pounding to clear the exhaust, tabs cut off around oil drain hole. I have beat on mine, it is scraped but it didn't bend. I can provide pics if requested.

Not going to buy it, but I find it interesting that the Engine Skid is no longer showing up on jparts.com when you picture it in your cart only a week ago.
