Thanks WWDiesel. As our roads are extremely bumpy, do you think medium springs (926) all the way around would work ?

With it being a gasser with a lighter engine than a diesel and if you are not going to add metal bumpers or a winch, the medium springs I would think would be OK.
But this question could best be answered by someone like Tom Mudd or some others who have lots of experience with updating gasser suspensions.

Hi,

i´m driving the 3.7 gasser with the OME heavy load springs (front: 2927, rear: 2948), without any additional load (no winch, no bumper and so on...) and the driving performance is very tautly.

bye,
samse :D

Um.
In what regard?
That's kind of a blanket statement without any background circumstances.

Decided to add my 5 (€uro)cents in lifts, as mine is done and documented. All the measurements are metric, if not otherwise mentioned.

My 2004 2.8 CRD had 198k behind it and it was time for a 200k service. Front end was hanging, the whole contraption was leaning lightly to board (left) and front end was banging to stoppers in bit bigger bumps. Also cornering at higher speeds had lost its firm, so time to do something. Well, springs were original ones and shocks had also 95k behind them, so no wonder.

My Jeep is DR and I drive perhaps 40/50/10 city/highway/offroad (lousy paths at mountains) and some extra ground clearance was preferable. I was browsing several option but wanted to stay in budget and in Ebay popped up H&R +40mm springs for €207.58+21.90 postage. I went to H&R Homepage, did the search and read the TÜV certificate of 29203-1. Impressive, test season had been over six (6!) years and max. axle loads were matching for CRD. I wanted to be sure, so I wrote them an email asking the specs. Reply came in few hours and told the test vehicle was 2004 2.8 CRD and the specs for front springs were for it without winch or HD-bumber.

I read a lot of forums and nobody who had H&Rs in KJ CRD had said anything negative about them, neither in Germany, nor in USA or Finland and when one Finnish guy told he had driven five years with them and OE shocks, I decided to go for it. As some said one needs longer rear shocks and some not. Also H&R and another German (Jeep specialist) told 40mm is OK with stock lenght rear ones. So, next to choose the shocks.

In the past I had GYB gas shocks in several contraptions, like Dodge Aspen, Plymouth Valiant and Dodge Ram 150 stepside and experiences were systematically positive, so why not? Found nothing in any forum but decided to be Guinean pig and try. So I ended up with KYB Excel-G gas ones, €206.40+28.00 postage, total €463.88. My garagist took €100 for the job.

First impression was bit surprising; in low speed I can feel even the shadows of light poles, but it's not uncomfortable, just more, should I say, "sensitive". Also cornering felt in the beginning bit "buoyant" but actually it is much better and firm now. At high speeds it is like on rails and takes every bump and uneven in road surface really nice and smoothly, like real american fullsizer from 70s. Tires are 255/60-17 Pirelli Scorpions with 8 x 17 Dotz Rafting alloys, so far no rubbing. Did some speedy testing in small, curvy, hilly and less smooth asphalt road and felt like Juha Kankkunen...

Haven't done any offroad yet and most probably won't do before August because of a coming trip to Finland by plane, but will update experiences when done, like did I pop the rear shocks or something else interesting.

Ive been going back and forth about lifting my 07, two wheel drive liberty (automatic). I found an 03 4x4 liberty with over 280k miles and a limpy transmission that may or may not work (automatic). price is around a thousand dollars.Plus it wont pass smog. Could i take all the 4x4 parts (transfer case etc) of the 03 and put on my 07 ,using my 07 transmission ? And then put a JBA lift on it ? Sorry if this isnt the place to post this question.

Having worked on 2WD to 4WD conversions before (on XJs, admittedly, not KJs): I wouldn't recommend it. It's typically more trouble than it's worth compared to just selling the 2WD and buying a 4WD model in decent shape.

Making the transfer case and front diff / suspension fit are probably going to be the least of your worries - it's the ten million details surrounding that which will eat you alive. By the time you figure everything out, get everything you need to make it happen, and actually do the swap, you could have been in a 4WD model with a lot less time, effort, and expense.

Hello, I'm new to this forum and just wanted to share a few of the pictures from my '06 Jeep Liberty CRD Limited. I bought a 3" lift from Rocky Road outfitters and I put 245/75/R16 Goodyear Duratracs on Mamba 16x8 Rubicon style wheels. This is still a work in progress, there are a few spots that rub when I turn sharp but I will shave some of the plastic out of the fender wells to fix this. Here are some before and after pictures.

Should of checked here before going to RRO
Very bad
Rubbing should not have to with a good lift, but .............
Did you do the pinch welds, with that wide of a wheel and a more narrow tire you'll have additional rubbing as well
265-70-16s ( same height as 245-75-16s ) works much better
Don't shave, show where you are having issues and we'll tell you how to fix

All of the lift components are Old Man Emu, I researched them quite a bit before I bought them. The rubbing is on the plastic air dam that's just under the front bumper (planning on replacing the front bumper with an ARB steel bumper anyway) and on the back of the fender well there is a plastic notch that sticks out towards the tire. I can only guess that this notch was put there to intentionally rub on a bigger tire. These wheels are wider and I chose the offset so they move the tire out and away from the frame about an inch more than factory wheels. Ill send some more detailed pictures of the rub spots to get more ideas from you guys. Thanks.

Oh boy here we go
What you are talking about is the pinch weld, very easy to bend over, DO NOT CUT IT OFF
I can walk you through it so it doesn't even look like you cut anything
Yes the wheels are wider therefore possibly more rubbing
If replacing the front bumper, well should of thought of that before the lift
( by the way even IF OME springs etc they -RRO- use crappy parts mixed in, trust me over 20 years hearing horror stories about RRO would not buy pop sickle sticks from them )
They still owe a buddy of mine money from 2003 .
But with an ARB bumper the OME 790s work much better for the extra weight, plus being a CRD , 927s do ok but....
I have over 250,000 miles of lifted KJ experience personally on my 03 and 04 ( 04 with an ARB for over 8 years)
Have lifted 57 or 58 KJs to date so its not just BS here

By the way on my 03 I have 2.5 inches of JBA adjustable coilover lift, 8 inch wide wheels with 5 inches of backspacing, 265-70-16 tires same height as 245-75-16s but wider to better fit the wheels, and 4.10 gearing , pinch welds flattened and no rubbing at all
NOW it looks like you have Moab ( from a 03-05 Rubicon Wrangler ) wheels as well, so backspacing is the exact same as stock, not out an inch out more unless you have changed wheels since the pictures

I ordered the lift kit in anticipation of an ARB bumper with a diesel engine, so all is well of that front. Your right about the offset/backspacing of the wheels, the factory wheels were 7" wide and the new Moab wheels are 8", but the offset of the new wheel is such that the inside of the tire is the same distance from the fenderwell and frame and stuff. The outside of the tire fills the fender just right.I havent cut anything out of the fenderwell, the tire just barely barely rubs the notch on the plastic notch on the rear, so its not that bignof a deal. Thanks for the replys!
