playing around at the badlands yesterday i messed up my front hooks...

the drivers side bent down after knocking into a rock and the other pulled up after i had to be pulled out of a situation. i'm not sure if this is the actual hook that bent or where it mounts to.

are these still safe to use or should i take them off and replace?

Aren't they meant to give way in certain situations?? Like in a colision? If that's the case you might need to replace now as they could become a flying hazard if used.

thats probably what is bent, either that or the stamped piece that comes on the hook.

but on the passengers side where i bolted to bent (its hard to see from the pics but the metal is bent downwards)...

would it be safe for me to take the hooks off, pound the metal back into place, and reattach hooks
or
should i take the hooks off, pound the metal back into place, and get a front hitch...

If you're doing that kind of wheeling, I'd say go with a hitch or an ARB!!!

i'm going to have to go the way of the hitch then... i'd love an ARB or RL front bumper but at the current time those are too much $$ =/

I do believe you just motivated me to get a hitch as well. I hope we can still find some.

Yeah, some reinforcement wouldn't hurt, but the hooks are meant to be used together for load dispersement. Pulling hard on one hook is bound to do that. Plus they're rescue hooks so I can't vouch for how much you're supposed to be able to use them without some damage as a result, at least the fronts.

The front hooks are only rated for 5000 lbs, heck my KJ is heavier than that!

The hooks are made for lateral force(pulling), not vertical.

Good suggestions. After metal is bent and then bent back to the original shape it isn't as strong.
