Post subject: | Water Damage???!!! |
After a lot of melting over the last week up here (including the ice in the footwell area of the driver's seat), I have a bit of a problem with my electricals since Thursday. First, my rear wiper started operating every time I stepped on the brake. Next, the rear gate lock operates in the same manner (step on the brake, door locks/unlocks). This morning, the dome lights are now on all the time, whether the vehicle's running or not. I've since pulled the wiper fuse, and it looks like I'll have to do the same with the dome lights. I've been told it may be the BCM that is soaked and is bridging power between the brake light wire(s) and the other functions. Any one had this problem? Can you help? I'm desperate here! I can take it to a auto detailer and have them dry and clean the carpet, but will this solve my problem? How easy is it to pull up the carpet? Anyone have a wiring diagram? Thanks in advance. |

Maybe someone can verify, but I believe there is an electrical connector under either the passengers seat or the rear seat carpet that could get wet and cause the problems you are describing. I have never pulled the carpet up on the KJ but generally speaking its not that big of a deal. |

there are several connectors that can cause this. Behind the driver's kick panel is a huge white connector with like 70 wires in it. It's very possible that it is causing the problem. It's held together with a bolt, but is easy to disconnect and clean up. I'd give that a shot. |

Last week their was enough water on the floor on the drivers' side that it was pooling on top of the carpet. You can press the carpet with your hand and feel it "squish". It's contained to the drivers' side front, but spreading to the rear. Anything directly under the driver's footwell or seat for wiring connections? Looks like I know what I'll be doing this weekend. |

Looks like I know what I'll be doing this weekend. How did you get that much ice on the floor? Or did you go through deep water or something? |

Ya i had a lot of water in my driver sides well, and i took forever to dry, i just put a box fan on it for a day. Hopefully the conductors are not corroded... |

I had the same problem when it froze here in San Antonio, Texas where did the water came from? It took me almost three days to dry the carpet. |

Sounds like your in the need of some Husky Liners. Just let the water pool up for a little while then dump it out before your shut down the KJ for the night to avoid freezing. We don't get the snow or temps here in Pgh, PA, as you do I'm sure, but I could not image not having them through the winter months. |

I was having the same problem even with the Mopar "slush mats." The sides of those units just don't come up high enough. Now I use Husky's up front and the problem is solved. Most of the time I dump them when I get home, but sometimes I forget til next morning, and then the ice just flakes right out. |
