Bumper Options?

I was just in Moab the other day, and while heading back to my camping site, a dirt biker sped around the corner into my lane and hit me HEAD ON! Good news, no one was hurt, but my bumper got destroyed. Anyhow, instead of a factory bumper, Id prefer to spend the money on a slick new one. What are my options/prices? I havent been on this forum in a while and feel outa the loop. HELP!?

From what I read around here there are 3 bumpers out that are common and those are:

has anyone rcvd their front bumper from rocklizard yet? if not, how long before we see one installed on a kj besides test vehicles?

eager to see what the final one looks like after the tweaks have been made...

The fronts are still in the prototype/test phase.Go to MOAB to see the prototype on USAFCOP's KJ!

It's too bad you can't wait a few months. The Rock Lizard bumpers are pretty sweet and the TJM bumpers will also be making their first appearence to the North America.

Hey guys, like you, I too have only seen the prototypes (in pics) and man they look good. Actually both of the "stealth" type bumpers mentioned look really good! As much as mine sees "civilian" use (I need street and curb appeal), I'm gonna have to leave mine alone (leave the little plastic cover on). I have thought, though, about making a different type of bumper, one that "looks" factory but isn't. Hear me out... the purpose of having a Liberty, at least for me, is to have a Jeep (with the rugged capability) that will easily and safely carry my family around (when necessary) and still be cool for me when I show up at a client's house. They won't think they're doing business with some crazy Redneck... even if they are... just by looking at my vehicle. I can't tell you how many people have already asked me when Jeep started making a "Rubicon" Liberty. They said if they could get one, they'd buy a Liberty cause it's actually pretty stud looking. Anyhow, I'm not a fabricator but look at this pic.

Why couldn't we cut the ends off the plastic cover and reinstall them over "real steal tubes/pipes" that this factory bumper is made to look like anyway. That way, the air bags would still function properly, it would keep the very nice factory turn signals, the great approach angles (but we could remove the tow hooks which we all agree get in the way replacing them with clevis ones welded to the bumper) and still look very clean and "daily driven". Just a thought. I may try it. Any interest??

Thats an interesting idea, If I was any good with photoshop I would photofabricate one up to see what it would look like.

Yeah, me too. but that's sort of the point. The way it looks now is pretty much the way it would look with this mod, plus of course the D rings and the cool fact that is WAS actually beefy. The receiver hitch would actually be behind the license plate (we have to have front plates in Texas) so really you wouldn't even know it was there.. Hmm, I'm trying to remember why I wanted to do that anyway!!?? Oh, yeah... cause my money is burning a hole in my pocket!!
I may do it in my garage cause a welder wants a killing for such prototyping. I should just buy a welder, torch and so forth and do it myself.
If you figure it out on Photoshop, let me see it though. I think it would be cool!

i spoke with the tech at the body shop whose doing the repairs, (more than just the bumper), and i brought up the idea of a steel bumper. he HIGHLY recommended agaisnt it. He said that in an accident, the mounts on the steel bumper and even brush guards can literally rip through the unibody, and if they dont rip through the metal, they often cause frame damage and alignment issues. also, he mentioned the idea of causing more damage to another vehicle in case you get in an acciden and its your fault. since i've cut back ALOT on my wheeling, im becoming hesistant to put a steel bumper on, but darn they look GOOOD

All things are possible I guess. Just remember, if these parts, built or bought, are mounted to the vehicle outside of the crumple zones and air bag sensors, it wouldn't matter if you used a 2x6 piece of lumber, you hit something hard enough, that "soft spot" is gonna give.
In College, me and some buddies went wheelin. A guy had a brand new Dodge and I had an old Chevy "Big Ten" with a "farm bumper" (big, heavy sucker). I got stuck (it was 2 wheel drive) and he had the bright idea to push me out. Well, I wasn't worried cause my bumper was made of 3x5x1/2" I-Beam and boxed with 1/2" plate. The problem was, just pushing wasn't enough. Before I had the chance to tell him no, he backed up and got a small run for it. He didn't really hit me that hard but when I went back to yell at him, he was layin over to the side "asleep" and there was this big balloon thingy hangin from the steering wheel. We realized what happened and busted out laughing. He looked like Tyson had worked him over good cause he was black and blue for days. Needless to say, he never went "pushin" anyone again!
