Well, it's done. I semi-flopped the Liberty in the swamp today. No real body damage, only knocked of the front driver's side fender flare. It is the being submerged in water that is killing it.

Wonder what my insurance agent is going to say?

All we had was a cell phone, I'll see if I can get them up. I had water to 1500 RPM on the tach.

Insurance is not going to like it for sure. I guess you just have to give it a good cleaning (interior) and see if any water got in and did damage to the engine.

Good Luck!

When I reported that I dented my rocker panel on a BLM trail near Moab, my insurance (Allstate) didn't raise an eyebrow. I'm paying extra for my insurance because it's a Jeep SUV, so, if I damage it doing offroad stuff, it's covered.

Coverage varies from state to state and insurance company to insurance company, but you may have a pretty good chance of getting it fixed.

Look at it this way: If you have a lienholder, your insurance company HAS to maintain the resale value of the vehicle, or your bank no longer has collateral for your loan if you have an accident. So insurance companies generally assume that they have to cover any damage, no matter how it's incurred.

Up to the tachometer in water???

Make sure the insurance company doesn't try to screw you and deny the claim stating abuse or neglegence. I dont know if they can do that or not but i'm sure they are gonna be asking you some questions.

At least it did not die at the mall...

The transmission isn't working real well, figure it's full of water. You can turn the KJ off and take the keys out and it still runs. The doors are trying to lock and unlock themselves and the interior lights flash on and off. The wipers come on when they want and the parking lights stay on.

I put in a claim with my insurance, we'll see what happens. Just driving down a dirt road, I moved over to let someone pass and plop.

that will do it all the time ;)

dirt road with soft shoulders and a drain full of water = Jeep carnage

You got any pics of this?

Also get a picture of the insurance adjusters face when you tell him that and he sees the damage. I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face.

similar situation:

My buddy swamped his brand new at the time 05' tacoma trd with 3k miles on it in a stream. It sat all night before a wrecker came out to winch it out. There was water was over the passenger side seat. They towed it back to his house, he pulled the plugs cranked it over to get the water out of the engine, changed all the fluids, new air filter and shop vac'd the interior for about 10hrs. He had to let it sit for a few days to get the electrical system dried out. Got a waterlogged headlight and airbag sensor covered under warranty. Believe it or not it's got over a 100k miles on it now and it runs fine. :? I couldnt believe it.

Been there. About 7 years ago, in early January, I hit a patch of ice, while delivering mail. I was in a postal, and when I hit the ice, the rear broke loose on me. When I finally got it to stop, it was because the front end was in the swamp.

By the time I got out, the front drivers side (right-hand side, since I was in a Postal Jeep), was under water up to the speedo. AFTER the wrecker pulled it out, the tow truck driver laughed at me and said, "Give it a shot! It might work.

Started 1st turn of the key. A week later, again while on a postal route, my jeep started to overheat. When I looked under the hood, I found out that the swamp muck had 'lubricated' the fan belt, and was causing it to slip. I knocked on the door of a farmhouse, borrowed some wrenches and a few towels, and fixed it.

Good luck with the insurance, and don't give up! After a few warm days, hopefully your libby will dry out, and be better than ever. Remember: That which does not kill us, only makes us stronger! (Or hurts like Heck. Something like that.....)

Sorry for the lose(? ) Mutt. Um, yank those JE Reel CV's for me huh? Insurance will cover wheeling? They owe me for all my dents then! Heck, I'll roll mine on purpose if they'll pay for the mods alone.

We WERE NOT wheeling, this was just a little dirt road incident. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That is the thing to do Mutt, There is no possible way that the insurance company can prove you wrong! Unless they ask to see where the incident occured (which is highly unlikely). I dont think that insurance companies will cover any aftermarket modifications done to the vehicle (to my knowledge) So strip the KJ now before they come and look at it!!!!! Sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident

mutt, so sorry to hear this..

Sound like some computers or wiring got wet. The BCM is on the drivers side behind that little panel where the fuses are on the inside. The ignition could be causing the Jeep to NOT shut off. Did the inside get wet? Tranny may be ok if you get it flushed and change the filter quick enough. I wouldnt be driving it.

Man it sucks to hear about this. :(

Man that really sucks! Your KJ was the inspiration for what I have done to mine so far, and what I plan to do. Sorry to hear about that

Total loss. Won't let me take anything off of it and I can't buy it back, it's going to salvage.
