Just the upper balljoint needs to be seperated from the knuckle. It's real easy, just loosen the balljoint nut about a 1/4"-1/2" and give the knuckle a few good hits with a 2lb hammer next to the UBJ(be careful as not to hit the balljoint or the boot) and it will seperate on it's own.Good luck and post some pics!

Best way to get it out (from HOURS of experience) First, go buy a 21mm socket and spray lithium grease Then: 1) Disconnect upper sway bar link bolt 2) Disconnect and remove lower clevis bolt 3) Disconnect upper balljoint 4) Loosen upper clevis bolt After all this, the suspension will drop quite a ways. Once you disconnect the strut from the top, pull off the clevis bolt, then the strut will easily come right out. Make sure you get everything torqued back to specs. When you do put it back together, make sure you grease ALL the bushings with spray lithium grease, and don't torque everything back with the suspension unloaded. Put a jack under the lower swing arm and lift the Libby until it comes off the jack stand (but leave them in place) Torque everything to spec, replace the wheel, and bolt it back on, then lower and torque lug nuts. I was really ticked off that Rusty's doesn't offer instructions, and all the ones I found on here....well, just weren't comprehensive enough for my tastes (pics, exact directions, etc would have been nice) instead of a "once over the world." I'm debating on doing a fully comprehensive endall/beall noquestionspossible instructions. If you do what I just said, you will be golden. |
