:?: Just curious... what have you guys done with that piece of plastic on your roof? I have an '03 Renny and while I love the look, it's seeming very unfunctional. I was hoping to attach my snowboards and fishing rods up there somehow. Any ideas? |

I like that basket. Where'd you get it from and how did you get the custom fit? Can you fit any clips on that for Snowboards or Fishing Poles? |

I cut down and rewelded a BVG rack and then mounted it to flat stock instead of the stock crossbars to keep the height down. I imagine you could clip just about anything u wanted to it with aftermarket brackets. It's pretty sturdy. Search for other "roof basket" threads on here. http://www.bauergear.com/catalog/adventurerak/index.htm
This is the basket I cut down. |

The Tupperware is there to cut down on wind resistance. I wish my renny had it... |

Cacher and AdamisAdam have both done that mod with the basket and reny tupperware. I almost did it, but was a little worried about cutting up the basket to make it fit. I do like the look and function of the mod though. My Reny basket still sits in my garage taking up space. I need to just break it down and box it up for someone to buy it. Got lazy with a few offers and didn't pursue the selling of it. Perhaps deep down, I want to do the mod. LOL! |

On a different note. Nice Salsa you have there! I was tossing around the idea of building a Moto Rapido hardtail. Right now I'm riding my '05 Kona King Kikapu full suspension rig. Later! |

Awww, c'mon.... The mod's really easy. All you do is make a couple of simple cuts and then get someone to spot weld it in four places. It's actually very easy. Since the basket already comes in 2 halves, you only have to make the cuts on one piece. |

I got the idea from Cacher123 and what he did. Only I contacted this guy BLACKOUT@NPGCABLE.COM and he welded me up a 36"x36"x6" unit. It drops right into the plastic roof basket and I bolted it onto the factory cross rails with clamps purchased from Home Depot. The guy sends it unpainted so I primed and painted bumper black on it. I've used it may times hauling everything from camping gear to wood up there. I'm 165lbs. and it holds me fine... |
