Post subject:  Front Pinchweld

So I know many of you have pounded the front pinch weld to reduce tire rub. My question is do the pinch welds have to be pounded with a hammer or can they be ground off with a grinder?

If you grind them off the unibody will start to seperating in that area and causing alot of problems.

What's the purpose that "fin" ? Also if you cut it, can't you just screw a bridge there to hold it from separating?

It's a part of the uni-body,If I remember right 3 or 4 stamp steel sheets are spot welded there and continues on down the rest of the body,it's there because of the uni-body design.It's really hard to explain without showing you how the uni-doby structure works.You could weld it but the design of that area was intended for that to be there so you will still weakin a little,I'm sure pounding it down weakins it a tad but the factory welds are left intact(if done right) and thus maintaining allmost all of it's strength.It's really touch'n go with modifing uni-body structors to maintain original strength.Like I said it's hard for me to explain it to you without physically showing you what I mean.Hope this helps a little.

Well I'll hold off until I get some bigger tires like 235/85/16. Currently I have no rubbing but tires could change that.
