When I installed the lift, I must have pushed the left-hand cv boot up some, and missed it. When I had the upper A-arms installed, the mechanic put it back down, and said, "no biggie". I've lost quite a bit of grease in the meantime, and NOW, it makes a clunking noise, whenever I put it in 4x mode. Is there a way I can put more grease in, other than removing the boot and joint?

I haven't really looked at the boots, but you may be able to slip a needle between the shaft and the boot and squirt a little grease in? Or if the boot has a banding strap to hold it on you could loosen it a bit, put some grease in and then tighten it back down. BUT! typically those brands are one-time-use and don't like to re-tighten. Stephen |

I cut my boot when lifting. To keep it going I got some automotive Goop. I found the tear and puttied it shut with the Goop. You have to let it sit for 24 hours for the goop to set. Before I puttied it, I took the needle and just put it in the tear and shot as much grease as I could in there. It is not throwing grease anymore, so hopefully all is good until the lift settles and I put a new boot on it. In your case, maybe just puncture the boot with the needle, shoot it full and then Goop the tiny hole shut. |

If it is the original band you won't get anything under it unless you cut it off. The original boot is real stiff and needs a strong replacement band. Also make sure you re-band it in the correct place or the boot will slip on the shaft and break the band. I know cause mine has broken two bands on the small side because I slid the small end of the inner boot down the shaft more to open up the pleats(?) after installing a lift. You may be better off poking the hole then sealing it up, sounds like the CV it bad anyway.

A good mechanic will have a "grease needle" they can push in the boot itself and inject grease. It leaves such a small hole there really are no ill effects. |

For a temp boot clamp you can use a hose clamp,****DISCLAIMER**** this should only be used as a temp fix as it will lead to vibration problems at highway speeds.I've used this method with great success on IFS Chevy P/U's and Hummers. |

Thanks for all the help, but.........I'm going on vacation in a week. I've been sick for the last week, and I'm not in shape to play with it this weekend. Therefore, I went the last resort: I set up an appt. for Monday, at the dealer. The shame!
