JKS Disco Noise

I just installed my discos and they ate awfully clunky....is this the general consensus? I know some people shimmed them out with a longer bolt and nut but is that really necessary?

yup thats what everyone says, they are clunky.

try a rubber washer?

how many people are running the JKS mod with the longer bolt and jam nut? any issues to date doing it that way?

I was actually looking at getting the JKS quick disconnects. I love the idea but I'm supprised they are that much for basically what is an unfinished product. They are specifically built for the KJ and yet you have to modify prior to installation.

For me the problem with the noise is that you don't know if it is just clanking or if it is coming apart. I was running the quick discos - that is untill they auto-disco'd. The upper mount was gone - the passenger side link got into the cv boot and tore it and hindered the steering. Good luck if you add the discos and for safety sake check them often. Me, I am back to stock links.

I wish I had some JKS discos. From my experience you sway bar will pop and clunk unless you have torqued the bolts correctly. This could be the cause. Torque should be 85-100lbs for the discos if I am thinking clearly.

You also have to lock tight them. If you don't get enough thread locker-- it does not matter if they are torqued or not. The post the disconnect goes into is aluminum and it will not hold tight against the steel without enough thread locker. The first one I installed did not have enough locker on it and liberated itself from the vehicle. The second time, I took them apart, cleaned them and thread locked them real good and they are still tight after 10,000 miles.

i dont know how to fix them but im getting damned annoyed at the clanking and clunking noises everytime i hit a bump

so far i have added in longer bolts to go with the links to push them farther from hitting anything, also have put the rubber spacer around the threads

the links show no visible signs of contact....so pretty much i have NO clue what is making any noise, but i hate it

and when i put the stockers back on - NO NOISE

what the heck!

how would humidity produce a clunking noise coming from the suspension.....that only makes the noise with the jks discos on?

if i were being serious, i would say chuck the front swaybar in the corner of the garage where it belongs.

I think part of the problem is the sway bar is now held on by a pin-- it is not torqued down with a bolt like before. So it now has some play between the post and pin and uneven bumps make it travel through this play and bump against the other side kuckle, making a thud when it is activated. At least that is my theory.

I just turn the radio up.
