For those of you that have replaced the inner CV boot small diameter clamp, what did you use for a replacement? I have installed two now on my driver side and the boot almost immediately breaks the clamp and then the small end of the boot slides down the shaft. I need some STRONG stupid clamps.

I used hose clamps the kind with the kex head on them and they held through the last trail we just did over the weekend. ( LOST Rockies section) I was having the same problem you were.

I always heard hose clamps were a No No, something like not strong enough, could throw shaft out of balance...etc. How long have you had the hose clamp mounted?

You can go to NAPA and pick up the CV boot clamps and tool used to crimp them down nice and tight.

CV Joint Boot Clamp (Verify the diameter.)

Doesn't the CV clamp in your first picture require the CV joint to be taken apart to install the clamp on the shaft? And the tool in the second photo is for the compression type CV clamps, a tool I already have, those type of clamps are the ones I am having problems with. Thanks for your suggestions.

For about 5,000 miles, I have been using a hose clamp, and so far so good.

I've had a screw type band clamp on my outer large end cv boot since last Spring, no problems.
