JJ, keep it clean!!! I miss Chat

Anyway, If you have an after market rack like the Wilderness rack that attaches to the factory luggage rack, and you haul anything on it, you may want to check your factory rail brackets for tightness.

I just got back from texas, and every time I hit a bump I was hearing a noise in the back up high. This afternoon I was looking her up and down seeing if I did not tighten my new all J rack or if a trim panel was loose, I even pulled it to see if i dropped a socket in there when I installed the all j rack, nothing. Then I slammed my tailgate in frustration and there it was plain as day...

the back of my roof rack bounced up about an inch!!

So just use a puddy knife or flat head screwdriver to split the seam in the plastic cover on the rail foot/mount, it takes a bit, but it will pop off. Just a hint when you pry it off, start at the back away from the rail. There is a tab that locks it into the rail that will slide out when you pull it apart.

Next you will see the 2 bolts that screw into the roof, mine were all the way out, they fell down when the cover popped off. I just put locktite on them and screwed them back in. Problem solved. Pop the cover on, and good as new.

Only damage was the plastic rain channel covers got gouged since the rack was bouncing on it.

BTW the bolts are 8mm.

So I guess this is one more thing for those of us with the tires on the rack to check every month or so if we wheel.

Ted

I love the rack, no I have nothing to compare it to, But I got an awesome price on it a few years back with lights.

It works great for me. Once I get the tire off the top it again will be perfect to hold the boys powerwheels jeep.

JJ... BAD BOY!!!

Hey Clint, I checked the rack today after reading this post just to make sure. Solid as a rock! It is much stronger than the clamp on racks that go over the stock roof rails. O and by the way, IM BRIAN! :D I am not an imaginary friend. :D

hey brian, just to clarify, the clamps for the rack are tight as they can be, the factory mount poing is what came loose

Hey USAFCOP, I never had the clamp on racks so I did not know what the problem was. It just seems that things that are adapted to add onto stock items don't seem to work as flawlessly than things that are fabbed and replace the stock things. But I may be wrong. My rack was originally Clint's but I bought the sweet thing! Solid as a rock! All welded together and strong, strong, strong! Do you have pics of yours USAFCOP? By the way, do you instruct the cadets at the USAF academy or are you at Colorado Springs?
