Powertrax not unlocking

My Powertrax NOSLIP is not unlocking. So everytime I turn a corner, my wheels squawk and the Jeep hops. It is getting annoying and difficult to drive in parking lots.

I opened the diff and everything looked all right. I moved the diff around with a screw driver and everything worked after that. It locked and unlocked like it is suppose to. After driving on it for a few days and several hundred miles, it is stuck again with the rear axel locked.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Any suggestions for solution?

How new is it?

Is it even locked when your off the gas?

It probably has about 40K miles on it. It is always locked, even when the gas is off.

You said going around a corner? Like 90 degrees, if its broke and locked it will not do it very well. The turn radius (no Joke) goes from hairpin to football field.

To manuver around a parking lot you literally have to back-up, turn wheels, move foward...over and over, and over, and over till you get it where you need to be. Or force it and break an axle.

Is it that bad? If it ain't, it ain't locked.

If it is that bad, your driver pins are probably broken and looking at the unit you can't tell.

You need to pull that cover and get the frag out of it right NOW, if that is what it is.

If its always worked right since you installed it, your springs are probably weak.

If it never worked right, it might not be installed correctly or your axle componets ain't on center.

I called Richmond Gear and they said the synchronizer is probably gummed up. They said to pull it apart and clean it with break cleaner. They also said to test it in a vise before reinstalling it.

Hey bottom line is: They brag about the space age componet strength and it needs no special lubes. Yes, I ran mine hard for a 4x2, but it should have never broke, nor should you or anyone else have a problem with their device. Unless you filled your axle with dirt, instead of lube, chances are it ain't gummed up this soon.

Richmond is, too chicken crap to own up to its inferiority, which is a crime!!!

Some of yall might not like my attitude , but your KJ family safety means everything in the world to me.

It is possible that dirt could be inside the locker. I didn't tell Richmond Gear this, but I did some heavy offroading in May which included a mud bogg. When I changed gear lube, I notice a little bit of dirt in it. I could have taken some mud down the breather. I am going to check it out further this weekend.

"Gummin" might make it slow to react, but it still should function. Too much friction modifier will make it gum up too.

Pull it out and look at it. Takes about 10 minutes.

All Lunch box lockers kill the springs. Buy two sets, they're cheap. It'll save you some time when they wear out again. The synchro ring is fine, I'm sure...
Loc Rite, EZ Lockers and the No Slip all do it... and be sure to check your cross pin when you're in there, they wear out the case prematurely if they're not working correctly. They wear it out anyway, but a lot faster if the springs die.

How often do you need to check/change the springs? Does make sense the springs would get weak, had mine in for about 10K miles and no problems.

Yup, I got new springs for mine(I bought it used) from Randys Ring and pinion. He had good service although he sent me the wrong springs then made me pay a restocking fee. :roll:

I think Ill just take my locker out soon..
