would something like this work for you... it attaches using the existing bolts holding the spare tire carrier on the tailgate.

I've got a bracket style mount that was bolted onto my roof rack, and I'm not happy with it's placement for a number of reasons. My idea was to take the bracket and mount it on the driver's side near the "4x4" emblem on the rear pillar. Is there any wiring back there that I should be aware / careful of? Thanks |

Target, best idea is to remove the inner plastic panel and inspect. Keep in mind the fuel door and goose neck are there. You are going to use some sort of backer plate aren't you to distrubute the stress accross the fender panel? so you will need to be in there anyway. One thing to keep in mind. Your antenna will have much better reception, if tuned properly, on the roof. Uses the whole roof as a ground plane and much easier to tun it up there. On the fender u will loose alot of distance with the same antenna as it will now be lower than the vehicle's roof. If only using it on a trail talking to cars on the trail that is fine, but any long distance modulation u had on the roof will be drasticly cut. Also don't forget YOU WILL HAVE TO RE-TUNE THE ANTENNA. other wise you might cause some internal issues with the circuitry of your radio if the SWR is blown by moving it. Is the roof top an issue with garage access and you don't use the radio all the time? I would use a quick connect and either remove it while city driving or a fold down and do just that. The roof is a good spot, but here in Seattle there are a number of exposed electrical used to power electric buses... My original thinking was to mount the plate ABOVE the "4x4" logo, so that would have been well out of the way of the gas tank filler cap, and I was going to use blind rivets ( A5 size ) so a backing plate would not be needed. Really I think the best solution will be to just wait and mount a Firestik on the drivers side with the AM/FM adapter. I have to relocate the stock antenna anyway. |

What ever you do p[ost some pics for others with the same questions.I myself am dealing with similar issues. Did see where you have an arb bull bar? Dont they have antenna mounts on the bull bars? Might be a good place to mount one without drilling holes in ur body. good luck and don't forget to tune the antenna. And POST PICS! |
