| Post subject: | Stock front Tow hooks |
A friend of mine just gave me his tow hooks (he installed a brush guard) so I ordered the plates to hold them on to mine, but I'm not sure how they install, looks like the bumper or something has to be removed? any help or pics would be great. Thanx |

Depends on the type of 'plate' you got. If you got the U-bolts then you do not need to take the bumper off. If you got the plates that come on the tow-hooks when you get them from the factory then you will need to take the bumper off. Where did you get the plates? |

once you pop your bumper off theres two caps on each side with a bolt in each, look like metal bump stops like old chrome bumpers had. pop those off and you can put the plates in there |

I put the stock hooks on my 03 without taking the bumper off. A ratcheting wrench will help, so will smaller hands. If you have man hands, I think you'll have to take the bumper cover off. Here's what it looks like off.
Tow hook
Took off tow hooks and added a bar instead later

Notice what's sitting on the frame. I certainly needed one after pulling the grill and bumper off mine. I suggest you have plenty on hand. |

I just installed my tow hooks and it was pretty straight forward removing the front bumper. The grille unclips easily, the bumper was held in place with 4 10mm bolts and I was able to pop out the snap-in rivets and pop them back in place. I ended up drilling out two of the plasic rivets and realised that they didn't have to be drilled (that a flat-head screwdriver would pry them out easily). There were two bolts inderneath the radiator that I had to get under the vehicle for, but other than that watch that you don't force anything and break any plastic clips. Also, I used some loctite blue on the bolts just for insurance. Good luck! -Mark |
