Hey guys, I just wanted to pose a question to all of us who have aftermarket wheels.

I am going to be getting the ProComp Rock Crawlers 15" w/o a doubt because I love the price and the looks. However I am undecided as to what backspacing to get them in.

I have 265 tires that rub on the sway bar as full wheel lock and I would like to get my rubber off my metal so to speak so I was thinking of getting a rather low backspacing for a wider ride. I also want that more agressive look of the tires coming out from the wheel wells. Is anyone out there running on wheels with backspacing of less than 4"? How about less than 3.5"? Less than that? Let me know.

I am going to be getting one more set of tires, MTRs, before I go with an SFA fab job and toss on some 37s, but that will be a year at least from now, maybe even two. Before I get the SFA I want to be able to have a wider tire and a wider track to gain some more stability and that agressive look.

Thanks, all of your imput is appreciated to make my decision easier.

How do you like the look of the 4.5" BS? Agressive enough?

wasn't there a chart on the old site that explained the hows and whys of backspacing and in particular backspacing as it applied to the Liberty? I know all wheels have an amount of backspacing so I'm wondering if ya'll are talking about 4.5" of additional backspacing; that seems like a lot.

Hey SethX9, I was posing the question of the backspacing on the wheels you buy at a 4x4 store and what backspacing people bought. I am not sure what you mean by additional backspacing of 4.5" being a lot. The Moab wheels are stock and have 5.5" the 4.5" backspacing just sticks out a little from the fenders and gives a more agressive and wider track.

I have 4" on 16" Cragars. No more swaybar rub but get some touching on the well liner.

Careful with 15" wheel. May not fit over disc brake assy in front.

I've got some Cragar Soft 8's on the way. 4.5" backspace, 16" to fit my new Revos. That should give me about an inch wider stance.
I'll let you know how they work.

MT classic 2's in 15" rim, measure 14" 1/2 inside... which DONT FIT... I pulled them off my uncles TJ they accually hit the ball joint first, but the caliper would hit also. Also the stock 15 alloys from the wrangler hit the ball joint and the caliper at the same time.

I got the Rockcrawler 97 series in 15X8, they fit just fine. lots of clearance around the caliper and the ball joint. The 51 series are the exact same wheel just different punch out designs on the face. I talked the people who build the wheels.

I had the 3.75BS and the 4.5BS shipped to me to test. The 3.75 gave me about 4 inches of clearance on the upper ball joint, and looked nice way out to the edges of the truck... but I bet that the tires would hit tucked up on the edge of the fender flare. the 4.5" bs looks perfect, about 2 1/2 inces on the ball joint, and should tuck ok.

I bet you could run a 11" or 11 1/2" wide tire with the 3.75" BS, but in like a 30: or 29" outside dia tire, maybe add a bump stop or some heating and reforming of the flare if you really need 31" tires. I am waiting on Firestone destination MT's, and we will see what the 31 10.50 looks on the 4.5 BS, you could always add a inch spacer to see what the 3.75bs would do i guess.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I wanted to get a lot of backspacing, but if there will be fender trouble then I may not bet below 4" Does anyone know where it would hit the bumper if it were larger than a 4" bs (3.75" 3.5" bs)? Just wondering.
