I want to use synthetic oil in my manual trans...

I want to replace all my fluids with synthetic, but the owners manual says to replace the manual trans fluid with "mopar recommended fluid" so in other words, get it from the dealer.

What weight/type oil should I use?

Yep,Did mine with amsoil syncromesh - works great,Also found alot of metal on my magnetic plug when draining the original oil,I needed 2 quarts and a pump they sell at amsoil..

I know the amsoil line is great stuff but i'd rather be able to do it this weekend... and I don't know of too many local places that you can buy amsoil...

If you can't get Amsoil locally or wait a few days, try Royal Purple Synchromax which can usually be found at Pep Boys.

I may be prejudised being an Amoils dealer for over 28 years. I didn't becme a dealer to sell the product just so I could have the best synthetic oil available to me at a dealer discount. I have used it in a large number of vehicles . Not to mention Amsoil has been around a lot longer then the others. I'm not saying buy from me Just do your research. Not bad mouthing the other brands either. Just remember who came to the party first and who trail blazed the Syunthetic oil field. Some of the first users of synthetic had procureded it from the Air force used in the New Jet engines in the 50's . Guess what the car motors fried. ( the oil wasn't made for automotive spec's) This is where Amsoil made the first stage call. They have been in the lead ever since, Many try but when it comes to posting actual numbers there is a lot of mumbling going on.
Amsoil has been there done that they don't argue they just state the facts.
I'm sorry I'll get off my soap box now, I just so believe in this product.

If you don't want to go with the synthetic synchromax of royal purple (I did and really like it. It smoothed the shifting out quite a bit), you can go with penzoil synchromesh which is the exact same stuff as the mopar, and pep boys sells it as well. It is cheaper than the rp, but is a dino. Also, make sure to undo your fill plug first, because on mine it was a different size hex than the fill plug and I would have been screwed if I drained first. Good luck... :wink:

I'm running the Pennzoil Synchromesh and its OK, sometimes shifting is a touch rougher than I'd like though. Considering switching to Royal Purple or Amsoil Synchromesh. Anyone else noticed an improvement with those brands over Pennzoil or Mopar?
