Well after long time of thinking and pondering I decided to get rustys suspension lift. :P I ordered it on Monday and on Tuesday I found a little note on the door where UPS tryed to deliver it. I know somebody was saying that it took Rustys long time to deliver their lift but I got to say that is the fastest shipping I ever had, next day. Also if any of you guys want to order Rustys lift make sure to call them to order it because when I called them the price of the lift was $50 cheaper than the quote I got on the web site. So this Saturday is going to be the BIG install attemp! Please stay tuned for tons of questions before Saturday and during the install cause I am taking my laptop to the garage (I got wireless in there) with me and I will be using it A LOT. :D I do have one question before I start, will I need any bumpstops with rustys suspension lift by itself?
Oh and feel free to let me know if I need to know anything before I start the install. thanks guys!

Congrats! If I wasn't so far away, I'd come to help out (but mainly to learn a bit). Good luck installing the lift. Please take before and after photos, and before/after bumper and fender well heights as well.

looks like you got everything..

you can throw away those front shock dust boots, dont think anyone installs those with the lift.

they may come loose and rattle around..

How are these instructions? Only 16 steps, they make it sound really easy.
SHOCK
REMOVAL
REMOVAL - LEFT SIDE
(1) Disconnect the battery.
(2) Remove the battery
(3) Unclip the power center and move it to the side
out of the way.
(4) Remove the battery tray
(5) Disconnect the battery temperature sensor
from the battery tray.
(6) Remove the four upper shock mounting nuts.
(7) Raise and support the vehicle.
(8) Remove the left tire and wheel assembly.
(9) Remove the lower bolt at the lower control
securing the clevis bracket.
(10) Remove the stabilizer link
(11) Remove the lower ball joint nut.
(12) Seperate the lower ball joint from the lower
control arm using tool C-4150A.
(13) Rotate the lower control arm downward to
allow access.
(14) Remove the clevis bracket at the shock.
(15) Remove the shock assembly from the vehicle.
(Fig. 12)
(16) Remove the spring from the shock (if needed

That's just the front, the rear is different (and easier).

Keep in mind you'll need a spring compressor to get the strut assemblies apart/together....

I never take the lower ball joint nut off, :? always take the upper off and thats it. Read up on the ways others have done it on here, would not fully trust Rustys, there is a lot more to it than the way they make it sound, for example the bolts that hold the battery tray in are hard to find if you are not looking for them

Starting on it tonight! Any last tips or advice? if I don't do any clevis lift or spring isolators will the Jeep be raked to the front?

should be pretty level, I did one install of a Rustys and it sat pretty level with out anything else. Did one with 2 nuts on each side in the front and an rear isolater and it sits about the same way level so if that helps any :? :wink: :lol:

Look up the Frankenlift install steps on the tech articles forum. It helped me a lot for the disassembly portion of the install. It has pictures and helped in locating bolts quite a bit. Also, take your struts to a shop to get assembled. It took them 20 minutes and $35 to do mine.

Yeah I got them printed off and ready to go. I just called a shop to get my springs done and they said they won't be able to do it tommorrow. :( I guess I will have to rent a spring compressor, how hard is it to use one? Are they dangerous at all?

If you have a vice and an air gun then not so bad trying to hold them by hand and wrench them down is a real pain in the :wink: Been there, done that, no matter what anyone says it can be dangerous just try and find another shop

No I don't have an air gun and there are no cheap shops open on saturday. I got a quote from one for $65 for both of them compared to the $30 that my old shop was going to do it for.

But getting it done tomorrow instead of waiting may be worth it in the long run. But then I cant wait sometimes to get new stuff on the Jeep! :wink: :lol:

pay the shop, i did my fronts myself, well, with help, and i was squinting the whole time outa fear of something breakin loose and takin off my head! LOL it isnt particularly hard to do, just can be somewhat un-nerving if youre anything like me.

Yes I have a friend who got hit in the head several years ago when using a coil spring compresser, it broke, spring took off and Lets just say that he never knows a bad day at least anymore. I tend to try and stay away from them things and let someone else do it!

HOW COMPRESSED ARE THE SPRINGS ON THE LIBERTYS....ON MY CAVY I USED SOME VICE CLAMPS AND A REALLY LONG BAR ON THE END OF THE RACHET AND JUST LET THE SPRING SHOOT OFF.....THE SPRING DIDNT COME OFF THE STRUT ASSEMBLY JUST SHOT THE LITTLE TOP PART INTO THE AIR ABOUT 5 FT...... HAHA

I would not recommend that unless you like hospital visits. The libby springs are compressed like a mofo!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't even think about taking them apart with out strut compressors!! If you do get them apart that way with out getting hurt you'll never be able to compress them enough to get them back together.

LOL. They really are compressed tight. I thought to myself hmm $50 strut compressors are cheaper than my $100 insurance co-pay for the emergency room. :lol:
