Post subject:  Liberty Gaining Respect!
Looks like the new Grand Cherokee (WK) owners are looking for lifts and finding that the best way is to use a Liberty lift. Imitation is the best form of flattery.

course there is always the obligatory "down with liberties" flame, but who has the last laugh now, liberties can be lifted and WKs have to be accused of lowering their rides.

Last weekend at the Jeff Daniels Jeep Show I met the writer and photographer of Low-Range Magazine and he told me he wrote an article on the KJ for November's issue.

He said he drove a rented, stock KJ at Paragon on trails that Wranglers feared to tread. He had a lot of praise for the KJ and said he had no problems other than hitting the bottom (no skids either).

Low-Range Mag's target audience is the Northeast, so if any of you out there subscribe or know where to get a hold of an issue, be sure to check it out.

I'm not sure if I find that too funny. I look at the Cherokee as being a more capable rig then the Wrangler ....... I can't say for the Liberty, because I haven't had it off road. Maybe I'll head to Left Hand this weekend ..... ;)

Doesn't Jeep test their models on the Rubicon trail? Isn't that where they get the "Trail Rated" badging??

Yup. They technically made it, but they apparently don't recommend that their customers try it. I think with skid plates and tow hooks you can try pretty much anything anywhere, though. If you are a patient and cautious driver, the worst case is you get stuck. Without the skids, you'd damage an awful lot of stuff out there (but so would a wrangler, cherokee, etc, without skids)

if I'm not mistaken, the trail rated badge does not mean the vehicle has run the rubicon trail...its a standardized evaluation on a set of particular obstacles like water fording, climbing, etc.....see jeep.com for a more complete explanation...

They test there Jeeps at the Nevada Automotive Test Center. That's where they are tested/rated. www.NATC-HT.org

It all doesn't stop the salesmen from telling you it was tested on the rubicon. That's what mine did at least, not that I really believe salesmen anyhow.

I believe the KJ was the last jeep to be tested on the Rubicon. All new Jeep models simply go through the little obstacle course to become trail rated.

it used to be can't label it a jeep if it don't pass the rubicon trail first, 2002 KJ went through it (though bypassed many obstacles of course) now the trail rated is pretty much marketing.

Looks like we need to get a rubicon run together and prove that article wrong. Not recommended? Ha, that's what people try to tell me in Moab too. :lol:

The Rubicon test and the Trail Rated badge are unrelated. However, Jeep has still taken every vehicle over the Rubicon. I saw pictures of the Commander and it was practically demolished. :shock:

My subordinate told me he and a buddy of his took a Lifted Lexus through Rubicon. I am sure they bypassed most of the hard stuff. There is no way a basically stock Lexus is going through Rubicon and do the hard stuff.
