Post subject:  rustys and spring compresser
the instuctions for the rustys 2.5 spacer kit says you need a strut compresser but some folks on hear say its not necessary is this true? and will I have to disconect the upper ball joint. I also know this kit is not highly recommended but the kj will not see a whole lot of off road action since I also have a 2006 rubicon with a 4.5 inch lift. mainly the wife wants the lib to stand out a little

I needed to use one for the rear, you might be able to get away without it but it made it real easy.

yes, you need a spring compressor to assemble the front coilovers.

yup, gotta pop the upper balljoint loose.

its a great lift except for the rear shocks. Many people complain about the bushings not being the correct size which makes them rattle unless you torque the heck outta the mount to bend it. Its best to get the lift without the rear shocks then buy some rancho or OME shocks for the rear.

You dont have to unassemble the coilovers, or struts whatever you call them. I just put one in. The kit bolts to the top of the factory strut. I didnt even use my spring compressors for the back as with the shocks unbolted with a decent pry bar you can drop the suspension enough to push them in. The only thing tricky is that you have to cut the bolts on the top of the factory strut a bit to compensate for the spacer. As stated above I did have to pop the UBJ with a small puller. The back is a peice of cake after the front

There are easier ways to get the upper ball joint loose than with a puller , loosen the nut all the way to where it is almost off and then take a BFH and hit the spindle a couple of times and it should just pop off, make sure not to hit the threads or nut too hard. For the rear take out the factory jack and put it between the frame and the brake bracket and spread it apart, no one else needed.

No not harsh just the way most everyone does it, one /two hits and it knocks it loose
