Post subject:  "Thump" under left foot

My wife recently complained of a thumping feeling under her left foot while driving her 02 Sport. I took it to work myself a couple of days and was able to reproduce it, more often when accelerating AND turning left.. such as a left turn from a stop. It actually feels like something semi-heavy is rolling around and then smacking something structural. Have not been able to reproduce it turning right - usually left and on rare occasion going straight.

Anyone have an idea what may cause this?

Welcome to the KJ forums!

Have you looked under the vehicle yet? The left foot area just behind the driver side wheel well, IIRC.
How is the handling? Any unusual wobbling, or just the hitting sound?
Has the F23 recall (lower ball joints) service been performed?

As for any recalls we bought it about 4 mos ago so I'm not sure but it's certified pre-owned from a local Jeep dealer so should be able to check on it. With her sitting in it and her foot where she feels it I did look under and saw nothing but floor pan at THAT point, however I understand the issue can actually be some distance from there and carrying through the floor pan. It handles very well, impressively agile I would say. But I drive a 5000 lb full size truck so most things are "impressively agile" to me :)

I will attempt to follow up on the recall issue this morning with my dealer and in the meantime I appreciate the input, and any future contributions as well. I'm in no position to give the dealer a blank check and say "let me know how it turns out."

As VideoGuy said, lower ball-joints would be the first culprit. My girlfriend has a similar issue with her Trailblazer, it's almost like a "pop" when accelerating from a stop and turning left at the same time. It's her driver's side CV joint.

Go to:

http://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/jeep ... ame=recall

You will need the last 8 letters/numbers from your VIN. Enter them into the box and you can check your recall info yourself.

Great input and thanks for the link. She is at work with it now but will certainly do that this evening and will carefully inspect the CV and LBJ. Very much appreciated.

You also may think about the front drive shaft thats right under the driver if you don't find anything with the ball joints.
