moving it all up to the basket.... so how do you get the 4 studs out of the door?

vice grips and turn? or is there a better way?

and from outside or from inside?

Take it to a good body shop have them drill out the nutsertz. and then fill the holes, sheet metal would be best instead of bondo, sand paint....

Or just find something else to mount there.

If they are just threaded in, put two nuts on the stud. Tighten the last nut on as a "jam nut". Then you should be able to turn the first nut to remove the stud.

I kind of doubt they are threaded in though. There is probably a bracket inside the door that the studs are welded or pressed into.

They are just threaded in. Remove the 4 nuts and the mounting bracket. Then grab the stud with a small socket and twist it out backeards. I then bout some stainless bolts with rubber and stainless washers to screw back in. looks good and not permanent at all.

mine came out from just over tightening the lug nuts down over time. Broke the threadlock or whatever is used to keep the lug on. The hole is just a bit larger than the lug. I rember somebody finding a plug that fit at radio shack or some place like that.

Should be 1/2-20 like the lugnuts

When I took mine off, after the carrier was off the studs had a star end that took a "E-torx" socket(what size I can't remember).Since they where locktited in the star ends just broke off and I had to use a visegrips. After they where off I took the 2 back plates off and got some plastic barbed push clips from Advance Auto ment for a GM car, nice tight fit.Just be aware that the paint under the 2 back plates will be pitted, mine was when I painted it and it was again when I took the carrier off a while ago.

I'm looking into this move also. Something I just discovered today is that the spare tire mount is actually shorter on the top two legs than the bottom two, so some sort of extra spacer will be required if you want the unit to sit level on the roof rack.

well its all off and washed, no pitting at all....

i bougth the thickest push barbs i could find and they were sitll too thin

so i went back to home depot and got a set of M10x1.5 bolts and rubber washers and put them in for now

i need to get black bolts or rubber covers for the bolts cause right now they are stainless steel
