| Post subject: | Super Skid interest? |
As many of you already know, All J is no longer producing the Super Skids. I'm debating on whether to purchase the rights and designs to get these going again. I have my own skids in the works, but they are a completely different animal, and they won't be very cheap. The Super Skids are a strong proven design and would be about half the price of the one I have on the design board, so I'm real tempted to jump on this. However, the purchase of the design plans and build rights, along with actually building the first batch will cost me a pretty penny, so I need to see how many are SERIOUS about purchasing one of these in the real near future. Shoot me a PM or an email at martin@rocklizardfabrications.com so I can get an interest list put together. I can't quote any prices at this time, as I would have to get the plans first to get my manufacturer to quote them out for me, but I am going to try real hard to keep them around the same price as what All J was selling them for. I know the sales of the last year on these, so I'm a little leary of spending this kind of money right now on something that isn't going to move, otherwise I would have already put them into production. So, I need to know those who are ready to buy ASAP, not so much those that want one but don't plan on purchasing for atleast six months. Thanks Marty |

Hey RL, Iam sure people will want this. I am interested in seeing how that new bumper will turn out and I do plan on getting the low profile roof rack. I sent you a pm a while ago about fabricating a mount for lights on the a pillar. Does anyone else have an interest in that? |

Just to make sure... This Skid will replace the Mopar engine skid and cover the gab between that engine skid and the tranny skid, right? |

It covers just behind the engine to the cross member behind the tranny.

Marty, Just my opinion, but I think the AllJ Super Skid is awesome and has a known reputation for being hardcore and heavy duty. You could go with the All J and work on a new front/engine skid to go along with the Super Skid that is equal to Skid Rows or that SS skid. Here's my two pennies. |

What would you have to purchase? Do they have a design patent or something? |

Not to my knowledge, but it wouldn't be very professional for me to take Ted's (USAFCOP) Super Skid off, take a few easy measurements, and just start making them the exact same with my name on them. Some of you have seen how hostile people on the board get when someone makes a replica of a well known product and starts selling it. It does not go over well. I'm a business man. It is cheaper to pay for the "priveledge" to continue a quality product from a quality company, than to lose a lot of business from people that knew I took someone's product design for my own profit without any compensation to the designer. |

What about the "more expensive" ones you have in mind? How much more coverage ect.? |

I'll try to explain. It is a replacement crossmember with mounts that sandwich the unibody like a unibody stiffener. Kind of forms an "H" shape. Then the engine/tranny skid bolts to that using countersunk bolts and runs to the front crossmember, like other engine/tranny skids. On the back side of the "H", the transfer case skid bolts to it with countersunk hardware. It's a lot of 1/4" plate and hardware, which is why it will cost more, but covers a lot of area and reinforces the unibody to reduce flex in the body. Did that make sense? |

WOW makes sense and also would work really well it giving everything more strenghth under there. How far would it ( the H bracket ) go back? Maybe to the rear lower control arm bracket then everything mounts off of them? That would sure stiffen the frame for sure and also can see that as a whole other line for you due to the fact even sliders could maybe be based off of them, the H bracket ??? Tie the sliders, skids, frame etc all together, very solid, |

I'd buy one right away. I was a few days late in getting one of the last ones from All J. |

Rock Lizard wrote: Tokyojoe wrote: Replace the front, tranny, AND T-case skids? ??? I think he was talking about your more expensive skid. Does it take place of all 3 skids. Sounds like a sweet idea lizard, but youve got to wonder why BB stopped producing them. If they were not selling and you tried to sell them at the same price, why would you sell them any better? |
