Will the Rancho RSX17007 front shocks work with the Rocky Road OTT® 2.5" Lift? Has anyone with this lift put new front shocks on? If so, which ones did you choose? Thanks |

Man I hate when this comes up...But I have to say it...yes a lot of folks have swapped different front struts with this kit...why...becasue it wears out struts and spring very fast. The OTT kit has been a real problem.. Again ... the other kits they sell have done a great job and the guys that have the Combo kit love them and they have really worked well for a long time... The OTT kit has been a problem and they should not be selling it because anyone that has been around for a whiile knows this is a real problem. Sorry I hate to have to say it. later...clint |

Have to agree here. I have an OTT lift in my garage and anyone is welcome to it. 10000 km and it went through struts and ball joints. Switched to the combo lift from Rocky Road and went with Ranchos and it's been doing well for the past 30 000 km. They told me when I went to order the Combo lift that they try to talk people out of the OTT lift. WHY THEY SELL IT AT ALL IS BEYOND ME. DCL JEEP. |

Please...I ask that you not sell to to anyone else to have the same problem. I have 4 on the shed floor and they are not for sale at all. I have just not taken the time to take them to the dump. Later...Clint |

Clint, Perhaps a "sticky" WARNING somewhere on the forum about this kit would be helpful and reduce the number of people asking about it or buying it before finding out the sad reality. |

Just how does this OTT lift wear out the front struts/shocks? The struts work in a linear motion all a strut can do is move up and down. I have a feeling it is "wearing out struts" because when people buy this lift they don't replace the FACTORY struts which aren't really designed for practical off-road use. So if someone offroads in a stock Liberty they are going to wear out the FACTORY struts reather quickly. Not the spacer's problem. So how exactly does this spacer wear out struts factory and aftermarket? can soneone show a comparison of balljoint angles between an OTT lift and daystar lift? I'd like to see what the difference is. Thanks, Catherine |

Maybe it had to do with bad geometry or maybe because it adds too much space to the spring? Decided to go with the Daystar for our CRD based on reviews from here and are pleased with the ride. Factory shocks and struts stayed so time will tell. Greg |

I'm also curious about the specifics of why the Rocky Road OTT 2 1/2" lift supposedly wears ball joints and struts faster, than say a competitor's 2 1/2" lift ?? I understand some people have had problems with rubbing or hitting, due to various things, but that's not the question. FWIW, I've had the RR - OTT lift now for about 2 years (20,000 miles, and 8 - 10 pretty good off-road trips), on an '02 sport with 33" rubber, using the factory struts, with no problems. BTW, it gave me about 3" on the front and 2" on the back (they took out a 1/2" spacer on the back). Maybe skrracing (Clint) can shed some light on this for us? Others?? |
