How well do these work? How do they differ from the stock upper arms? I had to get my upper bj replaced today, mechanic says it will keep happening unless i take off my lift... SCREW THAT!!!

So, what is different Al's and how do they work? And, where do I get them? Thanks a bunch

To get them I'd say contact them

http://jeepinbyal.com/detail.aspx?ID=464

I had a quick look for a post that tells you about them & how good they are but I can't find it. Perhaps you should do a search, as I'm sure I saw some tread in the last week or two that was talking about the upper control arms.

Thay are longer and the ball joint is placed at a better angle after you lift, moves the top of the tire out some to help

they also correct some angles, i have a frankenlift and untill i put the new arms on every time i tried to have it aligned the tech would tell me "i cant get it at factory specs but i will get it as close as i can" now not a word from the tech factory specs no problem.

Balljoint is mounted at a different angle on the arm, they are greaseable, the balljoint is replaceable, and they are longer to correct the alignment with taller lifts(IE, Franken lift)..

how long after the lift was it before your UBJ needed replaced? lot of hard wheeling? i have had pretty bad coil-UBJ contact since the lift and am putting on the Als UCAs this weekend...

20,000 km on it. Ones needs to be replaced. I think I'll get Al's Arms then.

I haven't looked at all... but how much work are they to change out? Do you have to take the front end apart (like doing a lift) or just split the bj and then undo the arm from the frame?

You dont need to take the suspension apart. You just pop the joint loose then unbolt it from the frame. Its not as easy as it sounds since youve got to take some stuff out of the engine bay to get to the bolts. Im not 100% sure, but I would say youve got to take the battery+tray out and the air box at least, which is too bad.

You'll need to unbolts the brake lines, where they pass thru the engine bay to the wheel wells you'll see the bolt holding the block in place so you can get the front bolts out.The rear bolts are fun to get to,you'll need a long extension and a 18mm socket and a universal joint to get to the back bolts.Make sure the engine is cooled off to,don't want to burn yourself. At least you don't have to hold the other side with a wrench, the bolts have a "wing" on them to hold them from spinning while taking the nut's off, just a warning they are locknuts,I hate locknuts  .

Suprisingly I didn't have to remove anything in the engine bay to put my arms on,I don't have the OEM airbox but that still should get in the way,I guess my flex head ratchet,12" extension, impact swivel, and 18mm deepwell socket is the right combo as not to remove anything(oh and no ABS junk either).

If you have the OTT lift that that is most likely your problem. Your best best would be to go to a different lift or add some extension bump stops. I'm sure Blake will post a picture or something. The OTT lift (Over the Top) will cause the upper ball joint to contact the spring and rip the boot.

Al's arms are at a different angle and have a large steel bung and will stop the ball joint from contacting the springs, but will clank around.

Like eddo said, you can make a bumpstop to prevent the a-arm from hitting the spring. I do NOT have an OTT lift, but my clevis lift causes the balljoint to get really close to the spring, so I made a bumpstop just in case.

An OTT lift also causes the shock to bottom out before the the upper control arm hits the bumpstop. So you have issues in both directions when using an OTT lift.

The new poly parts in the frankenlift has an integrated bumpstop similar to yours.
