Post subject:  Detours KJ Backbone & Winch Question?

Anybody running this set-up with a Rusty's 2.5" Suspension Lift?

If so, did you have to add Rusty's Strut Plates because of the extra weight?

I saw that JeepinMaxx and ratmloud had both gone to a synthetic winch cable to save weight:

Any other thoughts of ideas?

Sweet item BTW. :)

Other thoughts...yes go to springs that are designed to handle the extra weight of winches etc. Rustys are only rated at 310 lb so no matter if you do install an upper strut plate, its only a band aid repair, sooner or later you will need to upgrade to springs (OME HEAVY DUTYS), that will handle the weight, why waste money on the plates :? :? :? :?

just my thoughts and in my head I am correct

^^I agree. Rustys springs are only good for a libby with a stock bumper.

Get the OME HD coils and maybe even the OME HD franken lift for the front. The franken lift will give you a good 1-1.5in more lift over just the OME lift.

Thanks all.

That is kind of what I figured.

I was hoping that the Detours w/ a relatively light winch and synthetic cable would not require the replacement of the Rusty's 310 lb. springs with the OME HDs (trying to save money since I still want to get a TT for the rear with a RuffStuff cover and wire up a 7-way for the rear tow hitch).

Oh well, guess I'll just wait and work on this later.

Well if I was you I would just run it for a while and just know that sooner or later you will need to change out the springs. They will just sag over a period of time, so Put it on the list, go ahead and do the TT , springs are only about 100/125 for the set. Maybe Santa will bring you a set!

I lost at least an inch up front by adding the total 125 lbs of the Backbone, M8000 with 100' cable and roller fairlead. I'm sure my tired OEM front coils aren't putting up much of a fight anymore. Next year I'm planning on swapping them out. Sure I could trim the weight with synthetic, but I'd still opt for HD coils...
