The KJ got back from the shop on Friday, but this is the first chance I've had to take and post pictures.

The install was done by Eastside Custom Trucks in Kirkland.

First, the snorkel is of good quality. The plastic is thick and sturdy. The fit is very good. One unusual aspect about this snorkel is it's fit. The Safari line normally fit snug against the A-column, but since the KJ's door wraps around a small bracket needs to be used to raise it up out of the way of the door. All the holes on the snorkel mount locations were sealed with silicone weather proofing.

As a warning to those who install the snorkel, please check the hole template. I was told the template was off and would have created a major install problem if followed.

While the work was getting done, it was decided to properly install my CB. The unit is a Cobra all in one. The AM/FM/CB adapter and power supply are tucked up underneath the knee board, with the handset being held by a suction cup on the windshield. The CB cable runs out from the knee board up to the front quarter panel to an Accessories Unlimited ball mount and a 4 foot Firestik antenna.

This is the only part of the install that has given us an unresolved problem, since we have not located an adapter that will allow the Firestik FM adapter into the stock radio.

If anyone knows what type of adapter I need, please let me know.

Since the stock radio antenna had to be pulled, the only reception I have is provided by the stub of a wire that runs to the old antenna mount.

The view from the driver's seat is mostly unchanged. You can obviously see the new antenna mounted on the driver's side and a little bit of the snorkel. I have not noticed any additional sound caused by airflow through the snorkel.

A totally invisible mod I performed this morning was extra sound proofing. I took some 3/4" aircraft sound deadening foam and installed it underneath the carpet of the front seats. I had been running with this underneath the floor mats for a while and it helps reduce the tire noise greatly.

I decided to match the newly increase airflow with an exhaust, but the kit is not in yet. I can say that the KJ pulls forward a little more at idle.

Do you have any more picts of the snorkel? I'd like to see some side shots of how it runs up the A-pillar. Is there anything holding it still at the top? I'd really like to put one of these on my Jeep.

Very nice!! My KJ is an 02 & Patriot Blue in color as well. Now I have a great point of reference for how mine will look with a snorkel (eventually). That is really cool!

Looks nice. I'm curious: Was there already a hole behind the trail-rated badge on the left fender or did you have to drill for the CB mount?

there is a stainless steel bracket that is mounted high on the A pillar that is bolted to the frame and the snork

This KJ is so old there was no "Trail Rated" badging on it, so we just drilled straight in to the metal.

When there is light again ( stupid 4pm sunsets ), I'll take some photos that show the bracket that holds the snorkel away from the A-pillar.

I bought it from DPG Offroad. If you look around in the forum then you will find info on the original buy in. Dirk ordered a few extra snorkels, so give him a call!

It turns out that the "extra power" was not imagined. The check engine light came on and I found that the positive crankcase ventilation valve was broken. This caused my engine to idle higher than normal, thus "more power". After I swapped in a new PCV the engine seemed to run the same as before the install.

I also added some more install photos that show the brackets and how the snorkel stands against the A pillar.

looking great...quick question...why in the pic above doe the snorkle look like it has been moleded to hug the hood curvature, but sits up much higher? Is that part of the template problem you had??

looking great...quick question...why in the pic above doe the snorkle look like it has been moleded to hug the hood curvature, but sits up much higher? Is that part of the template problem you had??


It does look like it's molded to fit, and in a way it is. The curvatures are there to allow for the passenger door and hood to open. Otherwise the way both of the hinges work, there would be interference.

The template problem was with the hole placement.
